Oh, and coding seems like some kinda hell to me. Not interested, and biology never interested me much in school but hydroponics is fascinating and has so many interesting rabbit holes to go down like LEDs. As a suburban dad in a restricted state, growing cannabis isn't really sensible for me...

I've got a raspberry pie and an Arduino board, but that board on the light is just a boost converter since I used a 12V power supply I already had laying around. Probably not very efficient, but kinda cool, I can adjust the voltage and amperage with it though, and I have the 3rd COB on a...

Oh cool, thanks. I have a hard time understanding if these descriptions are complimentary or not, lol.

Probably, but some people have had problems growing lettuce with white COBs so I think it's worthwhile to do a run with each. I'm guessing there will at least be some differences. Maybe more or less color in the lettuce and I am growing a red leaf romaine and a green leaf lettuce. I think it...

It's a "full spectrum" COB. I got it because it would make a wider spectrum if the white COB spectrum is missing something lettuce likes. I am waiting a cycle to see how the lettuce likes the white COBs first.

    Help me understand LED cobs

Thanks, that's pretty straight forward. I hadn't come across those abbreviations. I would have assumed that alphanumerically BB in your example would represent higher quality than BD.

Sorry, what does CCT mean and what is working in Alpha?

Oh man, I'm already itching. Gonna be hard waiting through a whole cycle to add this in. It just looks so cool on that heatsink.

No problem, just send us a couple heads of lettuce a week and I will run whatever tests you want. ;)

All COB Users - Lettuce Grow Challenge!!

Cool, I am getting good sunlight for most of the day though, and will probably only be running the light from 3 or 4 PM to the end of my lighting period. I am going to start with 12/12 and maybe work up from there. I don't want to exceed the DLI. If I see similar problems others have reported...

I'm no expert, of course, but from what I have read too much blue to red can cause slower leaf growth and excessive coloration in the absence of far red. One of the videos I posted, I think concluded that the blue to red ratio should be near equal and far red should stay a bit under the red...

May be slow growth, but looks like some text book lettuce to me. The advice I got seems pretty confident that the problems people are having is just due to too much light. This person is saying you have to get your daily light integral down around 17 which is a little more than half what is...

Not much scientific value to what I am doing, but expanding the spectrum of the white COBs seems like where this is going to me. This would basically end up being 1W "full spectrum" to 2W 4000k.

I am thinking of adding a 100W full spectrum chinese led (http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Power-100W-380nm-840nm-Full-Spectrum-LED-Chip-SMD-Grow-Light-Bead-Lamp-COB-/172345063028?hash=item282090f674:g:EEoAAOSwGtRXw5yw) to my 2 x Citizen CLU048-12-12 @4000k. That would add a better far red ratio...

These videos are interesting. They are about the effects of far red on lettuce and flowering plants. Edit: Seems like maybe the red to blue ratio should be equal or favor red and a supplemental far red added. It's probably not this simple but if a 100W 3500k white LED had about an even...
