Its easier to tell the closer you get to harvest. Those clear ones sparkle under a loupe and the milky ones just look milky haha. Really what your looking for is when a few start turning amber and the rest are milky. Clear= no stone, more milky more stone, more amber more couch lock.

Well if you want to go hydro you have to pick a style and stick with it till the end but I'm sure you know that already. For a 4x4 I'd look at getting anything under 600 watts. You will have to decide what nutes you want to run, and something for the root zone unless of course you gave a chiller...
