    society is the victim.....when they charge a criminal in court it is "The state vs XXXX" The crime victims are tax paying citizens and must foot the bill, they are left holding the bag.

    I find it ironic that Oregonian crime victims pay to house and feed the convicted criminals and the criminals themselves aren't expected to contribute at all. Ads insult to injury

    yes. I find it very ironic that the surviving victims of crime are forced to pay the support for the very criminal that they were victims of. Family of crime survivors are left paying to incarcerate the criminal who offended them and their family, while the criminal is not expected to contribute...

    they didn't win a scholarship, they were incarcerated away from society as punishment for committing crimes against it's citizens. Part of their rehabilitation should be contributing to their own upkeep like a teenager doing the dishes, they might not buy the food but they can at least help with...

    even the non paying jobs still offer day-for-day and why shouldn't inmates work for their food and rent like the rest of us? I don't want them sitting around like at a resort while I pay for their food and housing. Inmates live better than the homeless and get health/dental care and free clothing.

    Most prison work programs allow prisoners an opportunity to not only get paid but learn valuable job skills to assist them after release to possibly stay out of prison. Also most work programs include 'day-for-day' allowing inmates to actively reduce their sentence thru their own efforts which...
