I'm not reading all the replies but this all depends on how much you want to spend. You can go into a hydroponic store and buy everything (id use cash) or buy what you need at a few different hydro stores so you don't get it all at once.. But I wouldn't go with hydro for your first time...

what type of nutrient solution were you using? I have been doing some research and have found a few organic ones with no fish emulsion/shellfish (mostly seaweed/kelp/ bat shit). This can't smell as bad as the shrimp. Anyone else have any info?
