Not sure where you read that it will trick them into thinking it is winter if you switch the light cycles. This is true for reg plants but for autos it is best to keep them on a steady 20/4 or 18/6. Changing the light cycle can cause massive stress and more for autos. Hopefully this helps you in...

The root I went was starting mine off in a 3gal pot then i mixed my organic mix 2-3 of the way up the top portion of the pot was just organic soil, vermiculite, perlite, and peat moss. Also put some rocks in the bottom for better drainage. Gl with your grow!
