Light Quantity vs Light Quality Evidence ... Just for 4 u gg lol!

I pissed around the web for a month trying to figure out what I was going to buy for lights and changed my mind a bunch of times. You are one of the posters that convinced me to go with cobs. Thank you. I don't regret that decision at all. Thanks for learning it for me.

I am on day 15 on flower and the girls are growing like crazy. How much bigger are they going to get?

    RIU COB General discussion.

I've ventured across this site and see as much bad information as good. I see a lot of stuff that just doesn't apply to our particular circumstances. I don't feel that I can get good answers or have the ability to recognize them venturing outside this particular forum. I am, however, familiar...

Luminus CXM-32 Gen3 the next big thing??

They are working very well so far. It's been 20 years since I did this so I really don't have any sort of fair comparison, but I will say that I am experiencing extremely vigorous growth.

Light Quantity vs Light Quality Evidence ... Just for 4 u gg lol!

Fair enough. Being in Michigan I can sure see how you could more easy absorb the extra energy in the winter, it is a special situation beings that your energy bills are so lopsided. You have very little air conditioning to do in the first place and your electricity is cheap and propane...

I can't believe you went through the 120 heatsinks so fast. I think you are safe keeping the 105s in stock. It'seems to be that a lot of people want to get into cobs cheap and they really help. I have 4 90cri 3500k 1212s on 105mm heatsinks driven by an hlg-120h from you and while it may not be...

    Just another DIY COB build

I'll be watching you to see how your plants react. I'm reluctant to up nutrients as I ran into a wall at 450 ppm, they got dark green and the claw, the only difference being the light. It was a t8 fixture running mixed bulbs @48w sqft. Don't laugh it grows amazing looking plants for veging. I'm...

    Just another DIY COB build

I am noticing this lime green also under cobs. Everything is growing like crazy, praying leaves and all but still have this lime green going. It would be hard to believe that I am underfeeding them. I have them in 5 gallon buckets of 1/2 miracle grow potting soil and 1/2 Green thumb garden soil...

Metal electrical conduit makes great yet cheap framework for cobs.

Here you go. These are light enough that the fan actually makes them sway in the breeze.

Metal electrical conduit makes great yet cheap framework for cobs.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this, conduit and the screws are available in just about every hardware store and cost less than $10 for a 5 foot fixture. I will admit that drilling through a tube is not the easiest thing to do if you are not handy. Also, most builds on here do not seam to...

Pin heatsinks vs Actively cooled extruded bars

I'm running the same setup, 4 lumis on a HLG-185. Using electrical conduit as framework the framework cost $10 and the 4 pin fin heatsinks cost about $90 after shipping.

Metal electrical conduit makes great yet cheap framework for cobs.

It is stiff, light and costs about $3 for a 10 foot stick of it. 1/2 inch conduit has an outside diameter of 7/10 of an inch. You will need to buy longer screws that fit your pin fin heatsink to accommodate this. One only need to cut conduit down to the desired length of the fixture twice...

PSA: MeanWell drivers must be adjusted

They don't come adjusted to their max setting and it makes a big difference. I have only heard about this once just a couple of days ago. I got my new cobs set up and wondered what they were not as bright as the ones I already have. I was kind of getting a little pissed about it until I remembered.

I like that the 120s are tapped for 4 chip holders. Between that and constant voltage drivers there is a lot of room for upgrading. It's nice to know this stuff isn't going to be obsolete for a while as quickly as the technology is improving.

I received my order, it came with MX-4 that I did not order and is missing the machine screws for the heatsinks. Its not a big deal, I just thought I'd let you know.

Luminus CXM-32 Gen3 the next big thing??

Heck, you could run two cobs per 120mm pin fin at that wattage. I'll be running 8@~54watts a piece. I might have went lower in wattage had the 105mm pin fins still been available. They should be here tomorrow, I have electric conduit here for the framework and just need longer screws for...

I just did this with mine, I hadn't touched it before. I got one "click" brighter which is sorely needed right now. What is the other pot for? It didn't seem to do anything. I have just 100 watts of 4 1212s over a 2x3 area and I know they need more light but I must say I am really impressed so...
