What kind of HID light is it? MH? HPS? Don't wanna buy one only to find out it's a mercury vapor lamp or something.

Add the second cfl. You'll need/want all the light you can get, even if it may not all be the optimal spectrum.

Make sure the soil isn't too wet. I've had seeds rot and die before breaking the surface in peat pucks because I was keeping them too soaked.

The testing I've seen on air cooled hoods shows that glass does reduce the light reaching the plants. 1/4 is pretty thick. I'd find a thinner piece of glass.

Very easy to adjust. And no, they don't slip. They are actually very secure and could hold several times the tension I asked them to hold. I highly recommend trying those clips!

Your 65w fixture has a 65w ballast. The socket size doesn't necessarily mean anything. You want a 100w ballast for a 100w bulb. They may light up being driven off a 65w ballast but who knows what intensity or spectrum of light you'd end up with. $0.02
