is this root rot, or just stained roots?

Dude, they make a 3 gallon Brita? I'm gonna have to check it out. Brita is what I use to filter my water. Hey feet, you might wanna try this. I tried using tap water to premix my nutrient solution but by the next day, there would be this crust that was about an 1/8" thick on top. I thought...

    Using Hard Water

R/O wastes ALOT of water. Use it if you don't mind the water waste but might I suggest using a Brita to filter your water. I tried using hard water but every time I pre mixed some nute solution, the solution would form a crusty layer by the next day. I started to use Brita filtered water and...

    My ebb n flow question!help

I don't understand your question. In ebb and flow, the tray is usually dry and then you flood it a few time a day.

is this root rot, or just stained roots?

ihavefeet: just curious, are you using tap water or filtered water?

    flood and drain medium question

I wanted to try that but it seems like the roots have nowhere to go. How tall do you grow your plants?

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

It seems Nocturnalreef is gone since I've unintentionally hijacked this thread for which I apologize. I have a question for you bgreenog. What was the variance in PH in that 20 hour period. Did you add PH up or down to correct it or did you just leave it alone for another 20 hours and take...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Instead of talking shit, why don't you actually show ME where I am WRONG? It looks like you're the one making an ass of oneself. I have provided what I needed to to show you that my grow is going great WITHOUT checking the PH. I then provide links as to why you don't have to be so anal...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

First of all, did you even read the whole argument or just that portion that you quoted me on? You mentioned that your PH varies little so good for you but if you read the original post from Nocturnalreef, he said his PH went from 5.8 to 7.0. That sounds like a pretty big fluctuation to me...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Actually, I was talking about a flood and drain table so my mistake. Can you tell me how the 2 are different?

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Dude, like I said earlier. Anyone of us could get stuff like that chart off the internet or out of a book. What I thought this forum's purpose was to discuss your own techniques and why you do such. Sure a debate here and there and also a disagreement here and there. Also, I NEVER condoned...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Well, the yellow tips on the smaller ones are because these were clones that I just put into the rockwool 4 days ago and these clones took about 22 days to root so naturally the tips turned yellow since there isn't any nutrient in the water I was using and even if there was, there aren't any...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Hey, I did admit I am a noob but I did provide pics to back up my claim that you don't need to worry too much about PH. No matter how much proof I give, I always get blasted by someone about how wrong I am. How much proof do I need to give? I could see if everyone thought I was blowing...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Then you either hand water it or use a drip emitter. And since the nutes never circulate, you wouldn't be the type of grower that would have a PH problem. Nocturnalreef on the other hand is using a flood and drain system. And no offense speedyseedz but you really can't be much help to this...

controlling EBB and gro ph and ppm swings

Are your plants showing signs of suffering because of your PH fluctuation? If not, I'd say don't worry about it. I got blasted for saying this before but just set your reservoir PH initially and leave it alone unless you start seeing problems. Also, if your plants are growing great...

    flood and drain medium question

Just as SmokeyMcPopkinZ said, Hydroton works best. I put my rockwool in containers that had a little Hydroton in there. I like this method since it's easier to pull out all the plants if you need to clean your tray.

is this root rot, or just stained roots?

I'm a stoner, I meant to say mushroom soup. I know, how could I confuse the two. I'm a stoner. Back to your grow. I grew my mother in a 2 liter soda bottle and although the roots just filled the whole container, she grew great so I wouldn't worry too much if you think your resevoir is too...

is this root rot, or just stained roots?

That looks like root rot to me and I bet it smells horrible. I was growing my mother plant in DWC and after I cut all the clones I needed, I wanted to experiment and see what would happen if I took out the air stone. My mother plant's roots looked like your pic and it smelled like broccoli...

    Rockwool

I was curious as to whether Rockwool was bad for the lungs as everyone seems to think. I was thinking that because nowhere on the Grodan Rockwool package does it say that the Rockwool is an irritant to the lungs and should be handled carefully. In fact, there aren't any warnings at all and I...

    Thick Salt Build up

Dude, that sounds way too complicated. I use GH nutes and know what Cassegrain is talking about with salt buildup but all I do is run tap water over the top of the rockwool for about a minute. This seems to work fine for me.
