I know what ammonium is.. I have no clue what it does in Carbon filters... lol if it turns out that you dont need it in your carbon filter just put it into your soil. It is a great source of Nitrogen for the veg period (just read that on wikipedia, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME)

I think this is one of those myths again. Yes technically it does make sense because in nature it also gets darker but I think in the end you will just expose your plants to stress for like 2 more grams.
