Carbon filter with Ammonium

I'm making a carbon scrubber and I was wondering what the ammonium does. I can get with or without but I wanted to know if ammonium is good or bad because it is cheaper with it.

Anybody have an idea?

I know what ammonium is.. I have no clue what it does in Carbon filters...

lol if it turns out that you dont need it in your carbon filter just put it into your soil. It is a great source of Nitrogen for the veg period (just read that on wikipedia, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME)

I use the carbon from WWW.yourchemicleconnection.com. works just fine and I paid 40 for ten pounds and was enough to refresh my 36 x 8 scrubber.
