pinching is taking the new growth and pinch it firmly so that the plant has to slow down to allow the area that was pinched to repair itself,before doing anything take the time to do some reading and video watching on topping , fimming, pinching,lst and whatever else you can find, going the way...

cloning will not slow down growth spurts, if you want to keep the plant short your best bet is to top or fim your plant at the upper most branches if you dont want to top then use the pinching method
