I have a 250w ballast which I know that there is a cable from the reflector to the ballast, then a cable that goes to a power circuit of somesort.. the thing i'm confused on is, DO I have to connect a ballast main cord directly to the wall socket or could I connect it to a power board?

Its never overkill switching up more watts, because more watts = more bud, unless you have experience in growing them with lower wattage from what i see if done ok, you could get about 5 ounces off the 400watts mate, try vegging for longer if you want more yields. just like thinn said, let em...

If you get a 400w hps/mh bulb and have a 400w ballast to go with it.. does that make the total amount of watts used 800w?
