All COB Users - Lettuce Grow Challenge!!

I would be interested in your results with r/b LEDs. Most of the recent studies I have seen seem to favor wider spectrums.

I'm not an expert, but I just leave them on 24 hours.

I grow that romaine. Interested to see how the color comes out for you.

Yeah, the T5 was providing much less light. Less wattage for a shorter period. Right at the light it was providing similar LUX to the LEDs at the surface of the DWC and the plants did reach it, but really not a fair comparison for the T5s. They were both getting about the same sunlight.

I'm going to skip the regular lettuce update and just do a 1st harvest update @ 49 days! I harvested Grand Rapids green leaf and Rouge d'Hiver red romaine lettuce from the DWC under LEDs as well as two Grand Rapids plants from my vertical ebb and flow under 6500k 24W T5s. The lettuce under...

I bet it will grow, but it will be very slow. Probably stretch a lot and the leaves will be super thin and floppy. Wait till you see the progress my lettuce has made since last week. My first harvest is tomorrow and I have some that I grew under T5s to compare! :)

If it is really outputting 9W you could probably get away with 4-5 but if its just rated at 9W but outputting like 60-70% of that you would need more.

I'd guess you are going to need quite a few of those.

I wouldn't be surprised, not to mention the desired nutritious qualities that should come along with that pigmentation. Just to clarify, I was referring to that beautiful red color in respect to my red romaine.

I don't think any of my lettuce has bolted. I'm not sure I understand your second sentence. Most lettuce varieties are cool weather plants which I believe would make them short day plants, but I have read studies showing that lettuce can benefit from up to a 24 hour lighting period.

Sunday lettuce update: greenhouse conditions, sunlight + 4000k COBs @ 20000lux, 14h lighting period, left - Grand Rapids (green leaf lettuce) right - Rouge de Hiver (red romaine) Middle row was moved into the DWC today (12/4) and are day 14 from seed. Bottom row is day 21. Top row is day 28...

I don't think there is any I don't think there is any reason to doubt the research. I follow most of their recommendations. My seeds in rockwool germinate over about 3 days in a dome with no direct light on a warm surface. They spend the remainder of 2 weeks in another dome under a standard...

Yep, I think that is what I am seeing. I am lighting an area around 32" x 20" with sunlight from about 7AM - 3PM and then with 4000k COBs 68.5v x .81A = 50.5W @ 17" above the deck which works out to around 20000lux from 3PM - 9PM. Daylight intensity varies but generally has a higher value than...

Don't worry about it. Looks like you germinated on Oct. 21st so that would put it somewhere around 40 days. That sounds like it's doing pretty good to me. I'd give it another week measure it and eat.
