i have the worlds worst soil and believe me i dont want the pests that come with the ground..........
i had 3 tons of limestone for the base with weed killer fabric in layers....so no weeds
i use coco/perlite mix and it grows like crazy and i want to continue using that
so back to the question.........to grow a 1 # white widow should i use a 15 to 20 gallon container?..........

using 60% coco and 40% perlite
6.0 ph for coco and 1.2 ec for veg and up to 2.0 ec for full flower
plants are about 4 foot tall and been topped once....gonna be topping again soon

i had mine in small pots. it was 100+ plus out all summer. i was water 3 times a day. i would feed heavy, then water heavy. feed, water, feed, water. the only problem i had with small pots was the wind blowing them over. i had to stake them down. this year i put them in the ground.

last year ..........

im not worried about wasting medium because i plan on composting it with all the dead plants and veggies and then making raised beds with it in my garden next year........i dont think i have enough time to water more than once a day.
gonna be in the afternoon about 10 to 12ish area.....
right now im using about 25 gallons a day for the greenhouse but i have a bunch of tomato plants for cover (in ne ohio id be busted in a minute without some good tall cover)
im using 1.2 ec every watering.........im trying to use normal water once a week to flush out any built up salts.........

ull like being in the ground better im sure......not having to water 3 times a day
ive grown tomatoes in the ground and in containers...........but tomatoes have a root system way bigger than my widow......i get a better yield in the ground but i dont fertilize and rarely have to water since i mulch with newspaper and grassclipping/mulched leaves.......but in the containers im watering a 5 gallon bucket tomato about 2.5 quarts of nute water per plant per day.....
guess ull find out which u like better with time........
what kind of smell am i going to deal with im wondering..........
thats what makes me very nervous

if i was growing outside id probably still top them so they wouldnt get any taller than i could handle working with........ud need a ladder to work with them and then more outside people could see them also
i have to keep mine at 6 foot max......plan on topping at least 4 times total

i've grown 1 pound plants in 5 gallon pots. all day long. :)
Amen! I think I am going to switch to outdoor grow. 150w HPS doesn't hold a candle to outdoor sun.

Think I can grow 1/5 pound (2.4 ounces / 68 grams) in a 1 gallon pot?

if u use a medium that drains u can grow in a small pot no problem
but u need to water a lot.......its been 95 here for over a week and its a bitch to deal with
