O.K this is my first real grow that involves lights and nutes and all that good stuff.I have 10 26watt CFL Soft white bulbs which I guess equals 260 watts. My question is will a 250w HPS run up more or use less power and will it produce a bigger yield.I'm asking on a power consumption level only, because heat is not an option since the room can reach 46 degrees if necessary. And also how does this plant look for CFL grown and never being topped I think I'm about 4 weeks from harvest but would love yalls opinion......Sorry but my Camera is a 3 Mp so up close shots are impossible.

looks good.. cfls will consume much less power, but are harder to flower with, when u use cfl's a lot of people lketo start flowering when they have bout foot tall plants, cuz they will double during flowering. and when u are usingt cfl's the whole point is to get in and around the plant as much as possible, an HPS light will penetrate thru areas that cfl's wont UNLESS u have cfl's all around the sides of ur plant and on top.. light around every square inch is the best method with cfl's, the bigger ur plant is, the more ur gonna need, in and around everywhere

happy growing bro

if you use an hps with the same number of watts as your cfls (250W roughly in your case) then you will be getting more lumens for the same amount of electricity. HPS lights emit more lumens per watt than a compact fluorescent light (46-72 lumens per watt for cfl, and 80-150 lumens per watt for HPS). The disadvantage of the HPS is that you must have a ballast which can take up space though you can get some pretty small electronic ballasts now. Also there is the matter of heat. You can keep clfs very close to your plants without burning them so you can potentially place them all around your room so that your plant get equal light everywhere, whereas the HPS lights give off a lot of heat so need to be kept a safe distance from your plants, but the light will penetrate deeper into the foliage of your plants and you also have the option of getting an air cooled reflector for the HPS lights and with one of these it is not uncommon to see plants touching the reflector without any heat damage.

Hope this helps:) happy growing

also dude its hard to tell from ur pic but it looks like the lights are verticle with spiral pointing down. With cfl the light comes off the sides of the bulb so you want the sides pointed at the plants

Thanks for the advice.I guess I'm gonna wait and see how much this one plant yields and then decide if I'm gonna go with a hps or not. Thanks again
