I'm just wondering purely from a scientific perspective if it could be done, and if anyone had experience doing it.
I'm always interested n learning something new and finding out the effects.

Well I'm probably the furthest away from an extended light cycle as u can get and certainly not a scientist but I'm having trouble finding a benefit to your idea.
Aside from the question of how the plants would react depending on where u live an unusual light cycle longer then 24hrs would have your timer on times fluctuations all over the map peak hours vs non peak.
I've been contemplating shortening the overall day but it would have the same effect on the hydro costs.
If your curious enough try it. There are lots of myths and things people must try themselves to believe and if it excites you to keep growing and try stuff only one way to find out.

what kind of timer would one use to set up a schedule over multiple days like that? Do you have to manually do it or use something like an Arduino, or do they make a timer for it?

Any digital timer can be manipulated even if it flicks off for 5 mins then back on for an extended time I guess

I'm not by any means going to be doing this for my first grow haha, I'm not that bold...or stupid
But I'm always wanting to experiment, and I'm not saying it'll happen for me but nearly all advancement in science and knowledge have came from accidentally discoveries...so who knows.
I'd just been reading up on light cycles and it got me thinking.

Years ago i tried an experiment of flowering in a 6 hours light on 12 point something off. its meant to speed up flowering but you need a digital timer as its meant to devide up 7 days of the week into 8 or 9, i forget exactly. anyway the afghani i had in there go fried, pure kush from ghs loved it and flowered quicker.
You cant have clones in there from 18/6 they need to go in from 24/7 light as they are now on a non 24 hour floweering schedule.
Some plants seem to get fried. you need to times 7 x 24 the devide that by 8 or 9 to get the lighting schedule to meet up at the end of the week. otherwise there will be an overlap at the end of the week.
