100% Organic Indoor Soil Grow- JillyBean, Trainwreck, Cheese, White Rhino (Bud Porn!)

This is a completely organic soil grow. Indoors under 400W HPS. This thread is going to be covering a lot about the soil recipes and true organic growing. This is going to be a *Mostly* water-only grow with maybe a compost tea here and there if I think they made need them. So lets get rolling....

Genetics: JillyBean (Subcool), Trainwreck (GHS Fem), Cheese (GHS Fem), White Rhino (GHS Fem).

These girls have been in veg for a little less than a month now. They are getting a short veg time because the entire harvest needs to be done by the end of Nov when we go to Amsterdam. They are looking great and here is a quick "group photo" of them to get things started.

those babies look awesome!!! i'm tryin to plan a trip to Amesterdam for the early part of next year. . . got any advice, tips, places to go?

Alright all you organic dorks out there!

This is the vegging cycle soil that these girls are currently in. We made this up about a week and a half before we transplanted into this so all the microbeastie activity gets going.

1 part Fox Farm Ocean Forest
1 part Worm Castings
1 part Perlite
1 part Lobster Compost
3 tbsp Bio-tone Starter Plus

BioTone Starter Plus 4-3-3 (This stuff is incredible and highly recommended! Its also LOADED with beneficial bacteria and fungi. Great stuff, won't let it outta my grow room! hehe), Worm Castings, Lobster Compost, FF OF, and Perlite.

Picked this all up at my local garden center. The Lobster Compost also has bark mulch in it, which is a plus.

In go the worm castings and lobster compost!

Last is the BioTone. This stuff is reeking with micro life!

Add some distilled water. This entire grow up until this point has been with distilled water. I will be switching to Culligan water, readjusting the ph down with apple cider vinegar.

Mix it up gooooood...

And there you have it. A super nutrient microlife thriving soil that is good for the vegging cycle.

The soil may be "good" for the vegging cycle, but we are looking for OUTSTANDING results! In comes the next thread....

The next step in this veg soil (the same process will be done for the flowering soil) is to make "spikes" as they are called. This is spiking the soil with nutrients so the plant won't get them all at once. It plays into "root adaptablity", meaning that when plants are growing in the wild they don't always have all of the nutreints required right under their roots. They have to dig deep and wide to search out all of the required nutrients. This just makes the roots "search" for their food sources and gives the fungi/bacteria time to feed on it for a while, digesting it and making it into available nutrients for the plant, by the time it finds it. Basically your creating HOTBEDS of micro-organism activity and your plants thrive because of it! hehe

Heres my spike recipe for the veg soil...

1.5 tbsp BioTone Starter Plus
1.5 tbsp Kelp Meal
1.5 tbsp Blood Meal
1.5 tbsp High N Bat Guano

BioTone Starter Plus, BMO Super Plant Tonic (for root drench after transplant), Kelp Meal, BloodMeal, High N Bat Guano (in bags in front).

The pots to transplant in. These spikes are made at the transplant into 1/2 gal containers. They will stay in these containers until thrown into flowering when they show sex. When sex is shown the females will be transplanted into their final 3 gal grow bags.

The plants before... ready to be transplanted.

Now make two holes on the sides and fill them in with the spike mixture.

Cover them up and water as usual. These bitches will go crazy!

There they all are. Transplanted into their veg containers. The tape is to mark out where the spikes are.

And thats it kiddies! All you gotta do is add water and BAM! They are good to go until sex is determined.

Great thread. I've been looking for some organic soil recipes. Can you tell me a good recipe for the soil from seed to veg pot? Also where did you find the lobster compost? Is that a northern thing? What company makes it. Thanks again +rep

Hey Turk, thanks for checking out the grow and for the compliments!

Not sure about the Amsterdam Q's though. This is also our first (and probably last) time going to The Dam. We are going for the High Times Cannabis Cup, so we are getting ready by doing a lot of research as well! I'll let you know more when we get back in the end of Nov.

Thanks for stopping in! Yeah, searching around this site for a while made me come to the conclusion that not many people use these types of methods on this site. I thought I'd show some "new" techniques to us organic dorks on this site. Its all about building your soil and making sure those microbeasties are happy! Because happy fungi/bacteria = happy thriving plants.

Also, I forgot to mention that the spike tech is also a plus for root adaptability because it makes the roots utilize the entire soil, making a stronger, more complex root system, which means larger harvests and healthier plants.

For seeded plants up until the veg containers I just use a very simple mix because seedlings don't require much nutrients at all. They are just mainly concerned with 1 evolutionary function at this time; survival.

So no need to overdo your seedling recipe. Heres my seed mix:

1 part Peat Moss
1 part Worm Castings

Haha, thats it really. Straight water, nothing else is needed. I actually use tap water for seedlings as well. Thats the only time I use tap water for the entire grow though. The seedlings could use the extra Ca & Mg from the tap as well! But once they go into the veg containers, no more tap water. The only reason I even put the worm castings is so the bacteria will help guide the seedling and get it used to that active soil.

Edit: When using tap though, just remember to let it sit for awhile to evaporate the chlorine in it. If it has chloromine in it, then it can't be bubbled out so you'll have to use another water source. The chlorine will kill all the bactria in the soil.

subbed, im going organic for my first couple grows, very interested learning as many techniques as posible.

Here are the pics I promised. They are a little less than a month into veg and they are doing great. Had a little bit of nute burn (I accidently pour the Humes water on them and they didn't like it! haha), but besides that they are rockin. Gonna be throwing these babies into 12/12 on wednesday. I have already started to slowly turn the lights off eariler and eariler so to give the plants a couple extra days to get used to it. Once sex is determined they are going straight into the 3 gal flowering containers.


A shot of them in the current veg area. They are being vegged under 26w CFL's. They have all been topped except for the White Rhino.

Trainwreck. This is the most vigorous out of all of them.


Cheese. Also a great looking plant.

White Rhino. Untopped. Soooo compact its crazy. Hopefully it stretchs some during flower.

The main stems on these babies are thick as hell, which is a very good sign. And they are only less than a month old!

More on the flowering soil later.

much appreciated TSM. I can't locate Lobster Compost down here in the southeast (everyone looks at me like I'm from Mars). Is there something equivalent that would be more widely available.

Looks great. I will most deffinately be checking the progress on this 1. That wreck u got is a real crowd pleaser. The cascadia x trainwreck i had was the bushiest most dense plant i ever seen. I love the organic, thats the way i grow myself. I like K.I.S.S. Nothing beats properly grown organic bud i dont care what anyone says. The worm castings r the best imho. I make my own , check into vermiculture and grow your own worms Your plants will love you for it.

hendu, any kind of compost will work. I just used Lobster Compost because it has a bunch of nutrients readily available from the decomposed lobster, and as an added bonus it has bark mulch in it (which I use at all times anyways).

Thanks a lot! Yeah, we used to have a worm box, then we moved all the way across the country and didn't want to bring it with us. Now we are moving all the way back across the country again for good this time, so I think I will invest in one down the line. The bagged stuff works just as good for now though. hehe

Hey man, looking good!! My girls are as old as yours but not nearly as developed. Bummer for me...

Quick update. Tomorrow they go into flower. I am going to have to transplant all of them because the JillyBeans are starting to get rootbound it seems. Today I took their light schedule down to 18/6 just to get them prepared.

Alright kiddies, now I'm off to smoke up some Big Bang that is curing. hehe peace

nice looking ladies you have there. I currently have GH fem trainwreck, white rhino and church as well as 2 reg Aurora Indica from nirvana all in week 6 veg.

My twreck and rhino look very similar to yours, I topped the wreck and left the rhino. wreck is definately the most vigorous of mine as well, hopefully the end smoke is what im looking for because I'd love to grow it again just based on vigor. Just top her at 6th node and she takes off, even in soil. A massive round bush just like the GH videos. Ill throw up some pics eventually but my camera is being used by a friend atm.
