1000 watt hps; 4x2x5 grow tent; 6 inch 400 cfm inline

I have a 4x2 grow tent and want to a put a 1000 watt mh/hps bulb in. I would like to avoid purchasing a cool tube and just use a bat wing reflector, drawing hot air from the top with a 6 inch 400 cfm inline fan. Do yall think this is feasible? What sort of ambient temps do you think I would have to keep??

I doubt its going to happen without a cooltube at least.
A 400 watter would fit better, and even then you'll still have heat issues with an open wing reflector.

yea - i'm starting to think 1000 might be overkill for 8 sq ft but it just kills me that i have to pay the same price for a 400 or 600. i know ill save in the end on the electric bill but i guess i just wanted to join the 1000 watters.

so i guess my follow up question would be concerning the heat difference between 400 and 600. ive run a 400 in a bat wing with this same fan in this tent before and found that my temps rose 20 degrees fare from the ambient/room temp. i would guess then that the 600 in an open wing might make temps 25 or 30 degrees higher than the ambient?? thoughts?

Yeah not a chance of running a 1000 watt with just a batwing and a 400 cfm in that little tent. Why are you against an air cooled hood? just price? I believe you could do a 600 watt in an air cooled hood with that 400cfm and be able to keep it livable for the plants, but just a batwing i think you are going to get way too hot. And a 25 to 30 degree swing is pretty big. I keep mine within 10-12 degrees from daytime to nighttime temps.

dude loose the batwings and get yourself one GOOD aircooled hood or a cooltube and run a 600w in there but AIRCOOL IT.....is not hard and it will work alot better.....USE one fan to cool and exhaust your tent all in one...thats what i do for my 1000w in a 4x4 tent works great...

Jose I'm purchasing a similar set up 1000 watt 4x2x5 tent because of space issues but I was wondering how many 2 gal pots can u fit in there

hey ras - you might want to reconsider the 1000 watter with the 8 sq ft of tent space that we are limited to; i know i have. i'm looking at 600s only now. before i was using a 400 and kept 3 plants in 3 gal pots comfortably. for my next grow i'm going to put 2 plants in there that are topped using Uncle Ben's method for 4 main colas. i found that the walls draft in with my exhaust - making my tent feel even smaller than 8 sq ft. so to u answer ur question... maybe 5 2 gal pots?
