i have a general idea but expert advice appreciated im going to sgrog 10 to 12 plants under a 1000hps in a tin shed from home depot bubblegum and og clones from L.A some people say its too much light some people say it perfect i got a little input on my other thread so im thinkin 3gal pots still a little puzzled on soil choice sombody mentioned the tiger soil ...gunna look into it is there a good soil to start from home depot or osh oh yeah what kind of ventilation shall i need i have an oldschool ballast that looks like a solid black shoebox size rectangle no vented ridges any and all input greatly appreciated will post pics and journal for all to see thank you thank you thank you

Go with Fox Farm Ocean forest for soil. it is the best and it is ready to use. just add perlite if you choose.

you could get a normal house fan and set it up. get one of those that goes side to side and it shud cover youll whole shed.
imo there is no such thing as too much light. as long as you can manage to keep the temps down you could put 10 1000W HPS lights in there and it would harm them. but there is a point where the costs outweigh the returns so 10 would be overkill. according to bghydro.com a 1000W light is good for a 4x5-5x7 area so if you are going 8x10 you might want to add some supplemental lighting

1000w is not too much light, but may be too much heat in warm months. You are going to need a good squirrel cage fan or can fan in the 6" or larger range and that pushes over 250cfm.
Most will be a bit noisy at those cfm levels, if you need stealth it will take some work.

a 1000 watt will run just fine on a 120v circuit. and i have grown just like you are about to.
trust me on this though, make sure you caulk every inside (maybe even outside) seam of that shed to totally prevent light from escaping. we got a heads up from a girl that told us some guys were about to break into our shed because they could see the 1000w light bursting from every crack in the shed.
they never got our plants, but i had to totally move and transplant all the plants outdoors in another location

I personally think there is a such a thing as too much light, first off, you can do that grow fine with a 600w. Your going to pay for more electicity and heat your room at least 4 more degrees than you want.

I would love to see where there is too much light. i understand the heat issue, and the electricity cost and use issue. but if those things are under control and not relevant im pretty sure everyone would agree with me when i say, give me all the light i can get!

is it a 15 amp circuit? the only reason tht i ask is because i am trying to choose whether or not a 1000w would work for me but im on a 15amp circuit and have fans and pumps to also put on the same circuit and i am afraid of running at like 13amps all day and slowly heating things up into a problem. but i could be completly over reacting and it could work fine??

it did got warm in there, but not hot because we had air drafts through the cracks of the shed. if i could be growing under one light it would be a 1000w without a doubt. having a shed to work with is much easier than a room inside where you may have to cut drywall, wood, etc to get proper ventilation. you can just run some 4 or 6 inch duct with an inline fan and cut the sheet metal to fit your needs. you will have to figure out how to control temps, humidity, and everything as you actually run your system on a consistent basis and you kind of grow with your grow if that makes sense.
