1000W Hps Lowryder Idea/Help

Hey all, I have searched and searched and cannot find a lot about 1kw grows.

If one could get an area that is quite large, with nice ambient temps of 60-70, why would it not be possible to simply hang a 1000W hps over a 4ft x 4ft area of 16 - 5gallon buckets?

Using fans in the room to circulate air and keep things cool. The area is large and ambient temps are constant.

Even if it were cut down to less buckets...

Would it work? If not, suggestions would be awesome! Anything to use the 1KW, cuz thats what is available.... there is also a 250 but it doesnt cut it anymore.

I would trim that number down from 16 to 8-10. Sounds like you have the general idea. If i had a choice I would hang the light in a corner so you can use two already existing walls to reflect light back to the plants. I recommend white paint or mylar on the walls if possible. If you can figure a way to prop up two other 'cardboard' walls to reflect light from the other two sides you will really be in business, assuming you have a good reflector.
There is no real difference between a 150w grow and a 1000w grow other than 'problems of scale'. For that matter, the same principles can be applied to indoor or outdoor growing, of any plant type.
The only reason I would ever advise anyone to grow any type of ruderalis or other autoflowering variety (lowryder) would be for an early or midseason OUTDOOR harvest, which I do highly, highly advise. Ruderalis is generally agreed upon to have to poorest genes in the cannabis gene pool, If your going to go through the trouble of growing, obtain the best genetics you can, even the best grower cant do much with piss poor genes, and if he can, imagine what he could do with a genetically superior plant. Silent partner.... If I had access to quality, quality is what I would be using, however, the access is simply not there. Suggestions? Honestly, quality is more important to me than quantity. I only need to pull 4 zips every 2 months. A little more would always be better, even if I could get 8 zips. I dunno....

I do have a 250, which works fairly well in a 30x30" area, but not as good as I know it could be. I didnt want to mess with a box or anything with the 1KW, simply because I am not too concerned about mass production. Few fruits is all that is needed.

Suggestions are so welcome!

So saying I wanted to do 8. thats a good even number. Soil-5gal buckets. BagseedClones or LR.

Slap that puppy over the top and blow some air and call it good?

No box, no serious venting required. Simple, open air, open area design. smallest number of plants the better. to pull 8oz would make me happy.

Somebody suggestion if this is not attainable?
There is no access to good genetics as far as this goes...so help me work with what I have please...

ur gonna have to have some kind of fresh cool air comin in the room to cool the temps of the 1000. that will bring it up to the nineties in no time if you dont do anything

The ambient temp right now is under 60. Even in the hotter days, only looking at ambient temps of 70-75.

5K BTU AC unit would deal with that issue well.

With something that big, I refuse to try and put it in a box or enclosure. Overly paranoid about fans dying and houses burning, and all that fun stuff.

The smaller the better, the safer.

So in order to equate my 250W operation to output the same g/watt as a 1000w system, what would i have to do?

30"x30" footprint by 5ft tall.

I dug out my 1kw, and the ballast has rust on it and stuff, not sure if this is normal, i am now afraid to use it. I am electrical savvy, very much so, but I cannot tell if this will effect the ballast operation or anything. anybody experience this?

you can pull 4 zips with your 250w. Using your 4x4 space. I say screw the 1kw. Save money on your elec. bill and reach your goal with your 250w. It can be done.

SoG with Lowryders. Use 3 gallon buckets and you will be able to fill in the 4x4 space with 24 buckets. I know this because my friend is using 3gal's and he has 12 of them in a 4x2 space.

this can be thought out alot more to where your saving money while you make it. Im gonna stick around, id like to see what you do and watch a lowryder grow at the same time.

Well, I agree, plus the 1kw is spooky! I have way way more than a 4x4 space, I actually have more like a 10x8 room or bigger, i was just going to shine that 1KW over a 4x4 space, no walls, no cool tube, etc.

But i go back to this homebox s which is whats setup now. stays way chill, actually too chill in this cold whether, but i have that bad boy about 6" from the tops, its killer, and the area is 2.5ftx2.5ft. Thought about adding some T5s on the side, or those cool 2ft ones from htg, for 70$.

I just feel like more light is needed....
What Can i doooooooooooooo??

Side lighting is always a benefit. I say put one on each corner of the homebox.

you can pull 4 zips in a homebox for sure. Depends on if you want to go BIG and use your whole room. Or keep it simple and use the box.

I say use the box :)

I agree, the box is soooopa sweet! Screw massive setups, (no offense to all those big boys out there), but I wanna be small. Stealth is not an issue.

So anywho... 30x30x60" Cooled with a super silent bath fan, which does the whole trick.

So aid me in this whole 4zips situation.

have done 9LRs, some funky type, and only get about a quarter each. Not so hot. as in 7g.
thats only 2 zips. Not quite there.....

Im bout sick of screwing with seed tho, gotta find me a mum! then if i can do that, i only wanna do about 4 at a time, in 5gal buckets, soil. Is 4 too many for a 250? If I keep them LST'd and under 2ft tall?

I say....lets hear what you say! hehehe

7 grams each LR? Really? Ive seen people pull 2 zips off of one. There is a thread on here i will link you too where someone explains how to pull 3 zips off one lowryder.

I think, if you can fit four 5gallons under your 250 then do it! Just aslong as each plant gets the same amount of light, but with your supplemental light (side lighting) you should have a problem. Get some quality nutes and you should be fine.

Unfortunately you cant use a lowryder as a mom or take clones from it. Have you thought about doing a seed run or do you want to switch the strain up? Iv'e only got 24" of grow space so ill be LSTing and topping my plants.

I know bout LR...for about the past year. *sigh*...

But looking to get into a serious strain. Going to hopefully order maybe once, and only once.

loving the sativa high...more than anything. But as I said, must have about 2-4 zips per 2 months. I think with LR, the bigger the pot, the bigger the plant. I have proved this. Then again, no nutes or anything, cuz...im retarded that way.

Anyhow....Sativa - good indoor- 250W uhmmmm....

i will see what that thread says...thanks again! Keep this goin!
