1000w Lighting Proximity to Plants?

The title pretty much says it, but I am just trying to figure out how far I should keep my 1000w's from my plants from start to finish of flower.. Any input would be great. Thanks guys.

ive got mine about 5 feet away from them and dont plan to move it

depending on their age, use the back of the hand test. if you can hold the back of your hand at the same distance as your plants for a minute or so, it's ok for your plants too. mine are usually 18", sometimes a little less.

Just use a thermometer or your hand, if its too hot raise the light.An air cooled reflector or oscilating fan(s) aimed at the light would be a good investment. Also remember that plants will want more light/ more intense light later in bud. Plus its also strain dependant. Some strains can handle more light that others, so u might want to find out the needs of the strain(s) your working with. O and five feet is awfully far.
