1000w MH for young plants?

How far away should I keep my 8-9 day old (from seed) plants/seedlings away from my 1000 watt mh? It's the only light I have and useing anything else is no an option. I had the around 3 feet away and gradually lowered it down to 24-27 inches recently and seem fine.Is this cool? Anyone with experience useing a 1000watter for their seedlings
Anyone ever or currently uses a 1000w mh for their young plants?

I am running a 1000mh on my seedlings. This light is pretty strong and I am playing it safe and am at 27 inches. I think I could go about 5-6 inches lower but I think the light is plenty strong at my current distance.

haha i know that feeling when no one answers you, im no expert but i think youll be find. with that bright of a light you can back it off about 12"-24". Heat is your biggest worry. Put you hand under light, if its too warm, the light is too close.

BTW photos of the plants would help.

I'm flowering under it too. Don't believe people that tell you you can't. The yield might be a little less but I understand there is a lot of oldschoolers who prefer it due to increased tric's. Which is also strain dependent. Had to throw that in there before I get reprimanded by an hps grower. lol

I have my 600 at 4 foot from bottom of tent n never moves....I'm lazy lol but I have a 250watt cfl In there also that I adjust accordingly

Charts should help you. There's the back of the hand test for heat. Air-cooled reflector you'd be able to get even closer.

Just lst plants with short spacing between nodes and end up with 5-7 tops instead of one main cola imo.
