If you would use a closed setup you could actually take advantage of the HIDs heat emission and run added CO2 as well... plus smell control will be easier... donno if that calculates for you but at ~35°C 1700ppm CO2 1800PPFD you can expect about 30% higher drymass. The O3 will keep pathogens also better in cheek if its directly at the site.

That is dope af! But honestly, I can’t be having anything visible from the outside of the property, something like that stuck on the side of the house is a dead giveaway and the difference between success and failure

I’ve never used co2 or ac before, it’s a lot to commit to if I don’t have the experience using it previously.
This is a year window, although I’d love to have that kind of setup in the ideal world, I have to concentrate my efforts on what has worked for me now and in the past.

Hadn’t thought about this. After I pay myself the initial 6k investment back from the first harvest, I could reinvest and use the 6k for 6 led fixtures.
I sat up and pondered everyone’s advice and decided I really can’t use ac.
I spotted a fan that is new to me and moves a serious amount of air.
This is her, she’d need a splitter and deffo at least 2 of the biggest mountain air filters to run smoothly

Now I’m thinking portable units in the intake lung room.
The guy I spoke to who grows in this climate says I need a max of 3000btu per 1k if I use them in this way. He suggested placing 1 or 2 portables in the adjacent room (from which I can passive intake into my grow room) and cooling that air.
Any suggestions?

If youre worried about heat then dividing the space, flipp flopping the lights and sharing the air between the rooms is not a bad idea. It cuts your active watts in half.

Kind of irrelevant since you explained the A/C is no go but I’m just curious;
why is it so wrong to have an A/C unit? I understand not having it visible. In the US, I’ve lived in places that won’t allow you to hang units in the windows. Couldn’t you just get creative with the venting? Isn’t there a way to vent out through your roof via an attic or chimney? The false wall idea has a lot of potential as well.

It's probably cold AF where he lives most of the year. So it will be a dead giveaway for growing or other illicit needs.

makes sense. Im in California so I suppose everything is so subjective. I had family running large ops and they were so laid back about everything that I’ve kind of adopted that approach. They have gotten to the point that they don’t run any sort of filter and just tell people to mind their own business.
Im not sure if I’d be willing to grow anything beyond a handful of plants if I had to be so overly cautious of my neighbors. Sounds exhausting.

We live in quite a densely populated city, and I don’t think in my whole life I’ve seen a house over here with ac, office buildings etc yes. But no houses. If we put an ac unit on the outside of the building it would probably be robbed before the police noticed it.

yeah my neighborhood is a bit dicey too. I set up some camera that are visable along with fencing off everything and some extra outdoor lighting. Pair that with my dog and it so far has kept the rift raft out.
I also keep my yard clean and have a visible garden so I don’t really draw to much attention. There is always someone else up to no good in the hood so I don’t attract much attention.
a portable A/C unit would be kept inside, you would just need to get creative with the intake/outtake ports being disguised.

Yeah this is what I’m thinking, I usually exhaust my rooms either into loft space or right into the chimney breast wall. So same could be done with a portable just not a split

if you go this route get the portables with two vents in the back. Whynter is one brand that is good. They have a feature where they dehumidify the air and send the humidity out through the exhaust port.
If you exhaust into a room I would do your buddy a solid and prep that room to be a swamp. Cover the walls with anti mold paints and seal off anything that will get mold. It would suck to have to tear down walls because they have mold throughout them.

Dude. That’s not even expensive lmao.
You must not know how expensive this hobby really can get. 6k not £ but $. In my area. Of Connoisseur grade. That about 4lbs. That’s totally worth the space and time offered. Easily pull 20-30lbs in that one year in that space.

Do you know if there are any portables where the air conditioned cold air output is a duct hose? This would really help cos I could just connect it straight up to the room with a duct.

I don’t. That would be a very helpful for a lot of growers.
one option is building a cover over the A/C cold air vent. Put a rectangle box sealed over the cold air outtake, hooked up a 6” vent to the other side. Use lots of silicon chalking. It will look crude but should work fine.
If you are doing a long duct run I would add one of the cheap inline booster fans.
