12 inches we have finally made it

ok im at twelve inches now with my first bag seed grow its just some practice before i do the autoflowering ak47, but any way i need to know some of the leaves are dying so do i trim them before i start flowering or just let the plant be, becuz i read that it can slow things. just a little help thanks much appreciated

Leave the leaves... Let them fall off naturally. Once they are dead, the stem will cut off supply to them completely and they will eventually fall off. They don't drain any energy from the plant, they in fact keep providing energy even when yellow for a little bit....

What strain do you know... Looks like a skunk of NL or perhaps a cross, look alot like my NL X Skunk...

leave them. in the past i had trimed themand this is my 1st grow with out trimming and do see a great differnce in bud growth with the plant left alone. im not even at 30 day into flower and the buds look to be 5or 6 weeks in .

im not sure how to determine the strain so its ok to start flowering i have 3 plants one died on me but i nursed her back to health/ hopefully its a she but the small one im going to let it keep going until 24 inches and see the diffrence. but how can i identify the strain

what about the smaller branches
i know they will flower but if i trim them would that help the larger branches get bigger buds

Your looking at a 3 foot tall plant at peak of flowering for the 1 footer and 5-6 footer for a 2 foot tall plant placed in flower. Are you planning to grow outside? I know a HID will only penetrate so far into the canopy and you are going to have a really tall plant. I suggest topping it (read: cut the top few nodes off) and using the top as a clone. Are you positive this plant is a female? It looks healthy. After a bit more growth LST down the branches that grow to replace the top. Keep 4 to 6 strong off shoot branches on the plant spread apart and trim away all lower growth. You could also scrog but it takes a while to fill a screen and if you do not know the sex of the plant then there is really no point.

If you want the most yield I would top and LST the plant. If you want it the quickest, flower now. I hope you have a powerful light though, my 600W HPS will only penetrate for a bit more than 20" into the canopy.

Yup, you will need some supplementary cfLS surrounding the lower part of the plant to ensure good penetration to the smaller bud sites...

is it true that i can but the lights right on the leaves and it wont burn them

Nearly on them, you can touch a CFL to your plant for a short amount of time, over an extended amount of time the light will burn the leave.
