well i will take you're word for it and use those trial runs to be sure.

From what i can remember with out looking at the info is that one full exchange of the grow rooms air every 5 minutes is sufficient in providing fresh air. However that is just for fresh air and not attributing for exchanging heated air to cool the room. 5 times a minute i think is a little looser of a recommendation. You should really find the thread with the formula that i described in my previous post if you want a closer estimate of how many times you would need to exchange the air to cool your wattage of lights. check the grow faq's section.

Yea man the trial run is going to be you're only definite, get a good accurate thermometer. Also take temperature readings from different parts of your grow box because parts that are in the direct path of the incoming air may show a lower temperature than a place where it is not. The multiple readings will give you a good sense of the average temps in your box.

I'll see if i can come across the thread of the rubbermaid box that i tailored mine after when i was using it.

Hey Killhit,

I remembered a name. "JethroTull" He's a user on RUI that was referenced in a few threads that i read back when i was researching about rubbermaid growboxes. When i found his thread all the pics were missing and when i just checked a min ago they were still missing. You may want to try asking your questions directly to JethroTull as he seems to have some experience and rep in creating/managing a rubbermaid growbox with cfls.

hey just saw looking around on the forums and saw urs , im growing in a rubbermaid bin too but alot small scale only 4 plants right now and just wanted to say dont get to mad about people not answering i started a grow journal and posted many questions i have around 120 views and no replies to any of them, also atleast for me the temp. can change alot or stay the same but once ur get it right it will stay there, make sure to do a few test like everyones been saying, ive had my set up for about 2 to 3 weeks (with alot of mistakes) ex: wrong bulbs, killing a plant, ventilation, lighting at night so light doesnt go everywhere, to small of a bin, but urs looks pretty good well made everything!! for my 2 cents i would watch temp still trying to sort that problem out myself

yea ppl are skeptical of the rubbermaid.. i plan on changing their views with this box. Im hoping to sort out all problems early and maxing out the potential of this box.

Man i'm just blowing up your thread today, sorry if you mind. I felt as though i needed to rekindle your faith in this forum with some good ol' fashion hard work and research.

funny thing is it says like three lines down that it doesn't apply to cfl lights. Thought i'd link you to it anyway as its a good formula, its proven, and it will give you insight in to how ventilation works.

It is the link from the first post of "Jethrotulls" stealth rubbermaid tub thread. If you go to the 14th post in that link the grower states some nice information about the amount of cfm per watt it takes to cool cfl lights and hps lights. Should be a good read as its the thread that Jethro used for reference when he started his grow.

i wasnt complaining 5 days ago when no one responded to my thread...

so i dont see your pointt. yea I get aggrivated because alot of experienced growers, who favor "HPS lighting and all the best growing techniques" dont enjoy working with different types of grows like this one, and often read the thread and posts then skip past it. thats all..

as for that question.. there never was one.. so i dont know why you keep pushing that. Once again this thread was to show my design.

that is by far way beter then needed...you might not even need a fan in there cus air movement will be vigorous i think.

I agree with the doing the research part but dude can't get his shit straight on the question part. You keep telling him that the question was from another thread that suffered from no replies and he doesn't get it. Hope he got it this last time.

ps. i think you'll need the 5-6 times air exchange. Lets hope you don't need more. subscribed and waiting on the test run.

ok I cut the bottom of that tub so the grow bags fit nice and snug.. maybe the pic will help u see what I was talking about.. the bags sit in the very bottom of the flat tub.

Like i mentioned earlier, I didnt cut the center of the bottom 50gal bin so the light fixture is pretty much flush with the bags. :leaf:

and for the record.. I love researching, its a hobby and knowledge is what makes this fun.

ohh yeaa..

This is also what I was trying to explain about the wire cage around my 200w envirolite, to ensure no leaves can touch my bulb... i will cut the edgs so that it fits better. Just a pic for the idea.

does anyone think this is a bad idea? will it block a considerable amount of light?

Nice work i love the grow bag channels you created. Should keep them in there nice and snug. May have light leak issues, so lightproofing is something to keep in mind.

The cage around the envirolight is smart. It looks like the cage is fitted tight to the bulb though you may want to use spacers of sorts to give yourself an extra inch lee-way on all sides. My experience with 24w cfls was that if the plant was right next to the bulb but not touching it didn't burn. However where the plant touched the bulb it burned. I'm assuming that those monster enviros will be much hotter so i'm guessing you'll need to keep the plants just that bit farther away from the bulb.

As for the cage blocking light... that mesh looks rather fine so i don't think it will be a problem. If you're worried about it just go to a thrift store and pick up a nice large glass chimney for candles and use that as your cage instead. Here's a link to an image of one to show you what i'm talking about:

They come in all shapes and sizes. Take a look at my grow room album in my profile to see the one i'm using. I bought it for a dollar. I've seen them large enough to fit a football so i think that enviro could fit. But really i don't think the mesh cage will be a problem.

so I hooked up the bottom lights and that nonsense.. heres a look with some of my small pots in there for fun hah.

I also got my inline exhaust fan today.. thing is HEAVY andn loudd.. any suggestions on where to mount this thing?

Im afraid its too heavy and difficult to mount on the side.. and the only other place I can think of is in the center of the top bin, between the two envirolites.
