12' x 20' Aero/NFC LED Setup

Hello RIU,

I'm just penciling out some outlines of a future build and setup and have been using this forum for most of my information. The amount of knowledge and experience this DIY community has and is open with is nothing but astounding. I figured I'd ask you guys for some input on a 12'x20' setup.

I'll be using Stinkbud's AERO/NFC with GrowMau5's 24 Cree CXB3590 DIY Kit from cutter electronics. The main variation from Stinkbud's build is I'll be going with 2 alternating harvests instead of his 3 due to space constraints. I'll be using a tent for the flowering and possibly a tent for the veg to make sure light is complete isolated from each station.

Below is just a rough layout of the space without the equipment.

Questions:
1. Will the 24 CXB's be sufficient for both veg and flowering stations?
2. How much space should I allot for the veg area?

I don't know squat about the lights you want to use but I would just combine the clone/veg areas together. Don't really need a tent for that space if the flowering area is protected from light leaks. Save some bux and toss up a box made with 2x2s and panda film.

Spend the extra money on a trim machine. You're gonna need it if you get that setup producing like it should. :lol:

OMU definitely can stack/combine this to save valuable sqft. As far as a general sqft ratio, do you think 2:1 flower to veg space is optimal?

As far as trimmers, are there any table top / small qty trimmers you might recommend?

A buddy of mine on another forum flowers two rows of plants in a 10x10 tent like you plan to use and uses a smaller tent for his moms/clones and veg area that's got to be half the size so I'd say yes to the 2:1 ratio. He runs 2 - 1000W HPS lights on light rails and does a recirulation DWC setup with 8 plants in each row. Crops about 3lbs/side I believe.

He also has one of those hand-powered trimmers that looks like a big wok. Something I should have picked up in BC when I was on a grow room shopping spree out there in August. :wall: Was turned off by all the big rubber fingers in it but found out later that they can be removed and only a couple left in to stir the buds around as you spin the handle. SpinPro or something is what they're called I believe. Can get a motor drive for them too that can be added on later. Almost doubles the price tho and they are about $400 for the manual one.

#1 Not for flower and veg but for flower only It depends how hard you want to drive them 12@2.1a = ppfd 1260 the same 12 @ 1.05a= ppfd 733 that is covering 16 sqft area
Personally I would look at the citizen cobs they are half the price. I am getting 12 to cover a 3x8 area at 2.1a
Which citizens are you using?

I am using clu048-1812 and hlg-240h-54 as the drivers 2 cobs per diver
The price difference is hard to ignore compared to the cree cxb's. I'm thinking of going watercooled on these (I can machine them out). Is there a reason you're going for 1 driver for 2 cobs instead of just upping the driver to power a higher qty?

The elg and hlg set of driver has smart dimming profile built into the driver and you can set a monthly schedule or weekly for automatic dimming they also can dim to 0 not just 10% for me this is more important than having less drivers. Just program the driver and then it runs by its self built in sunrise and sunset dimming with 30 drivers its a nightmare to try and control them all.
For my area I need 50 citizen leds and if I went with cree for the same output i would need 65.

How's the efficacy when driving the clu48s at 2.1a?

Also, do most guys go with the 220v or the 110v with these drivers?

The elgs are 220 only and the hlg version is in testing for certifications and not for sale yet. Its mainly personal preference whats available in the room and the ability they have If they can safely create new circuits ect.
I can only estimate the usage as half leds and drivers should be here next week and the other half will be 2 weeks behind. I will also be setting up a automation panel for the environment and to supply power and control the drivers I will be replacing 4000w of hid on light movers with almost 7000w of cob lighting

I was going to setup 5 cobs on 3' rail using an hlg250h c1400b but wasn't sure on what my par readings would look like over the canopy. There's no way to figure out what the spacing should be at the various intensities without putting a par meter to it right?

What kind of configuration are you using on the clu's at 2.1a for 3x8?

Yes my flower room is 13x16 and I have 2 areas that are 3x9 and one that is 3x16 there will be 12 cobs per 3x8 area in 2 rows of 6 with 6 in a 2x4 frame.

What are you using to automate your room?
I was going to wait to post this until I was completed but there is an open source project that is a hack a day finalist this year here is the link to it. https://hackaday.io/project/11997-mycodo-environmental-regulation-system I also grow gormet mushrooms and setting one up for them also. Its just about a plug and play as you can get. besides that everything will be going inside an automation panel, Main power that will supply all leds and the controller.
