Why CFL you ask? Well for starters I'm gonna be sleeping right next to this thing (it's in my bedroom). I'm sure this setup will get me by until I can scrounge together some funds and purchase a Hydrofarm Daystar reflector and Solis-Tek 400/250 watt digital ballast. But really, I still got the BCNL Producer+ sitting in the kitchen for that.

Grow Tent Specifications:

Secret Jardin DR90 tent
Sun System Garden Bright reflector
FHD 125 Watt 6500k CFL for veg
Feliz 250 Watt 2700k CFL for flower
Sentinel MDT-1 timer
C.A.P. ART-DNe recycle timer
Botanicare Econojet 2x2 ebb & flow system
GH dual diaphragm air pump
Sedra G-300 needle wheel water pump

*no fan in there as of yet, but will most likely purchase
a small Dayton axial fan to hang and adjust as needed.

I see you wrote that you will be getting a fan soon. Will you be including ventilation as well. Hot air out cool air in?

I'll probably just roll with a passive exhaust. That's the way my Power Grow T8 cab was originally, and it worked out real well (I've since added active intake to that setup due to the loaded up flood trays which now reside in it). In my experience when dealing with fluoros, T8 is the coolest, followed by the larger high wattage CFLs, then lastly T5 HO at a distant third << now those suckers can get hot to the touch no doubt!

Gonna be rockin' nine floods a day on this setup (every two hours) since the fill & drain times are so lightning quick. Water is highly oxygenated considering the needle wheel water pump's Venturi intake is fed by the air pump.

A little more progress. They're vegging quite nicely...

Fan is on a recycling timer for now, coming on for 5 minutes every 15 to cool the bulb down a little and cycle the air inside.

Switched over to 12/12 lighting schedule on May 27th. This time I'll be keeping my veg nutes peaked at 1000ppm and the 6500k spectrum bulb in for at least the first week during the initial stretch phase, hoping to reduce that. Also, I added some ducting to the tent mainly for lightproofing purposes.

Pulled two males today and one plant which was damping off badly at the stem. Plant didn't appear to be in poor health or overwatered?? Anyways, the remaining seven have more room to breathe now. Bulb has been switched to the Feliz 250 watt red spectrum. Remember now the 125 watt blue spectrum bulb remained in throughout the first week of flower to help reduce stretching. Uncle Ben's topping technique was also applied here. Man are these suckers BIG!!

12 days now into flower. Nutes are running HIGH at 1170ppm(gasp!) for this early on in the game, yet the plants seem to be handling it quite well:

I think that's about it concerning the males. 6 for 10 with a 100% germ rate and very uniform growth, with one of those plants lost to stem rot.

Wish I would've vegged for longer but just couldn't wait!

Only rockin' a 400watt bulb in there right now. The ballast is dimmable (400/600/1k) and right now I'm drawing around 700 watts at the wall socket. My goal is to keep the whole setup under 1000 using a 600 watt bulb. With everything being 8'' and considering the Can-Fan RS8 HO moves *gasp* 722 CFM, I'm fairly certain I'd have no trouble using a 1000watt bulb in this 3x3 Jardin tent.
