you can use fish tank ph supplies but i think that meter might be off most townships and cities in the usa keep the ph closer to 7.0... did it come with a calibration liquid??? ph is pretty important for things to be normal make sure the meter is on point it could mess you up big time if you dont:)

Yeah it came with PH 7.01 calibration liquid and it was already calibrated correctly. My water is just wack. I went to get some fish at the pet store last month and the guy said this towns water was very hard. He wasn't kidding. Its probably all the calcium in the water that is making it so alkaline. All of the dishes I wash have a white coating on them when they dry. A glass cup will look dirty after being washed and dried.

Think some people don’t understand what % means….. It’s been proven by many seed banks that females stressed to turn hermi and used to pollinate other femails produce mostly female seeds. Now it’s nature so I don’t think it’s 100% female seeds. But just for augments sake let’s say its 99% female seeds. Now here is the part people seem to forget that gives you a 1% chance that they are male for each seed. Now let’s say you’re really unlucky you have a 1% chance that your feminized seeds are male. So it’s theoretically possible that all seeds are male even though they have a 99% chance of being female.

There was an article in high times about 1994 that said if you pollinated a female plant wit pollen from a hermi you would get about 75% female seeds. Since that time the seed banks have improved there methods to increase the % of females.

Now considering all the factors that can cause a hermi and the % of your seed being genetically male, female, or hermi. Do you think it’s possible that the grower screwed the pooch instead of the seed bank?

Sorry for the rant

As for the current thread …. I would say you have at least a 75% chance of producing female seeds. Giving each seed has a 25% chance of being male, female, or hermi. You still have about a 75% chance of good femails seeds.

I say go for it and I hope you get all female seeds. Even at 75% chance the odds are in your favor.

In closing 99% chance doesn’t mean that 99 out of 100 will be female. It means that each of the 100 seeds have a 99% chance of being female. So all 100 seeds could be male if your really unlucky or female if your lucky.

I wish I had control of it. I live in an apartment and it's city water :( I'll just spend the money on distilled water. It's no big deal since I only use about a gallon or two a week.

plants grow slower than usual when stressed..if your plant doesnt change in two days its going too slow...maybe too cold not enough nutes...too much water...all these things cause stress!

That sucks dude! Did you have any light leaks during the 12 hours of lights out? If you get any light leaks or go and look at you plants during lights out...it can cause plants to hermie!
Never had an hermie in 10 yrs of grows AND I'm growing in an opened room, beside my computer, playing games, having fun around the plants with friends, room lamp opened during the night cycle, no respect at all for their night (but NEVER the main HPS light opened) and No Hermies!

Hermies are bad seeds, Pain in the ass! Kill all hermies to minimize the risk of adding a chance in the genetic of the plants to become hermies... those who hope having Feminized seeds with hermies are only fucking up all the purity of the strains!

I cut off a massive amount of balls off today. Sounds painful. It's kinda funny, I don't have to worry about stressing the plants out and turning em hermie lol. I only have 9 plants now. I killed some that were mostly male. The one white widow thats left seems to be mostly female because it only grew a couple balls that I cut off a week ago. The seeds I test will come from this plant, as I'll know it got pollinated from one of the bubbliscious plants.

I ordered some Auto White Russian and some Auto Blueberry from LowLife through Dr. Chronic. Any comments on these? I'm debating whether to try one of those or the hermie's seeds for the next grow. Either way. I'm using jugs of water from the store. My PH 8.5 tap water is probably what turned them because of the stress. The guy from the pet store said it's hell to deal with the PH and the hardness of 300 PPM. However, I have been pondering the fact that these seeds were stored together in a film canister for a couple years and that maybe they were left in a hot car at some point for a few days. What do you guys think?

As a seed it can only be male or female they cant herm from being mis handled ... But they can die all together..

Okay, I think I found the main cause of all the hermies. The first two weeks during veg and the first week of flowering I was giving my plants water filtered through a brita filter. My tap water PH is really high; about 8.5. I thought the problem was it was too high. Today for the hell of it I tested the PH of the water after the Brita filter and it was 3.5 PH! I was watering my plants with very acidic water all the way up until they hermed. If i'm not mistaken, there is an acid that is used on females to make them herm called something like gerberic acid. Here I thought the PH was too high, but it was actually too low! I think the Brita filter removes the hardness(calcium, magnesium) and leaves everything else (acids) I even tested it on distilled water and it changed it from 7.0 to 4.5. I tried it with two separate filters to.
