Is this some sort of formulated attack by the republicans on Obama? Is this there idea of getting him out of office? I dont get Republicans...They are a dying breed for obvious reasons!

To twist the Amendment to fit the agendas of a political party seems unjust to me.

The Constitution was carefully organized and put into place by men who were the very definition of Justice. To smudge what they have created is just immoral and wrong on so many levels. I agree with Balzac89, none of us are really American unless you are NATIVE AMERICAN.

I see republicans are still using the constitution for toilet paper when ever it's politically convenient for them.

The constitution has been amended a number of times. That’s why we have 27 amendments. The Bill of Rights is the only ones put in by the people who actually wrote the Constitution. The 14th amendment was written to give slaves legal citizenship. If I’m not mistaken they want to change it so your parents have to be here legally before you receive citizenship. On the one hand I think it’s a good idea and would deter some illegal immigrates. On the other hand the sins of the father are not the sins of the son so should the babies be punished for crimes the parent committed.
I think if the federal government would seal the border, allow for more temporary and permanent immigrants, and actually punish companies that hire illegals people would be more willing to accept some for of amnesty. They would also back away from extremes like changing the Constitution.

Section 4 - Republican government
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

maybe if they could properly protect the border we wouldn't have this immigration problem in the first place. if they could have seen this massive failure coming, it probably would've been worded differently. either way, if two thirds of the states want this, its perfectly constitutional.

The Indians are not the only true Americans. There never would have been a United States of America if immigrants had never come to this country. Not to mention they migrated somewhere else themselves.

Dude if you want to go past prehistory, then we all started in Africa, then moved up to the Mediterranean, then out to Russia and other Asian countries, then crossed the ice bridge to Canada down to South America. SO technically we're all African

what obvious reasons? true republicans are a dead breed because there are very very few in office. the true conservative or in party terms republican, is a proponent of states rights, and a limited national govt. this is so that every state can be formed the way its citizens wants. this means 50 varied governments to choose from if you dno't like where you are, and it also means that it is easier to change things for yourself. the GWB view of republicans is ignorant. in an ideal society, people actually help those who really need it themselves instead of expecting the govt to, and the radical right form of government operates the best, because it allows the greatest amount of freedom. in other words, the only time that the ideal liberal/democrat society is a good choice, is when most people are either too selfish to help out on their own accord, and need to have taxes taken out forcibly despite claiming to be sharing, OR too lazy to take care of themselves.

Just so you guys know, the founding fathers had no say in the 14th amendment, it wasn't adopted until 1868. They were all dead by then. Just getting that out there.

what most people don't realize about the 14th Amendment, is that it is the force that makes the Bill of Rights powerful. Until the Supreme Court interpretted the Due Process Clause of the 14th, the BoR only applied to the federal government, so state government's didn't HAVE to allow a freedom of speech, right to privacy, etc. Fed. prosecutors would even sometimes turn cases over to the state because there was not warrant requirement.

in other words, if we lose the 14th Amendment, we lose the Bill of Rights. It really is that simple.

i think linsdey graham is another puppet and a douche. the 14th should stay as it is. even though yeah it does suck that people are coming here even on vacation to have their baby. even though it doesnt give the parents much anyway, the kid still would have to invite the parents to even get a visa. we need to make it harder for illegalls to be here starting with the employers
