150 Watt HPS in a Cabinet Question. +Rep for help!!

I just built a cab that has a growing chamber that is 31" high, 34" wide and 24" deep. I will be putting a SCROG screen that is 14" high. I am weighing the difference between a T5 light or 150w HPS. My question is can I run a 150w HPS in this cab if I cool the light? The only issue I see as a problem is when I flower there will only be 11" from the screen to the light. Will my plants burn if they grow to within a few inches of a cooled 150w HPS. Thanks.

a 150watt hps doesn't have a lot of penetration or heat so you can get relatively close I don't see a problem with 11". Do you have room for the pots the plants are going to be in and do you have room for your buds to grow up above the screen.

Also I'd place the floro's on the sides to get better light to the inside of the plants.

What plants are you thinking about growing in such a small space?

i think the 150 HPS will be fine in that space. but i have seen some good grows with CFL's and Floro's. you will definitely need fans to exchange the air, and a fan to cool the light. you may even want to look at a cooltube combo. the cooler you keep the light the closer the plants can get to it.

There will be 11" of grow room between the screen and light so the buds will get within 3-4 inches from the light? Is that too close?

well i would definatly go with the 150 hps.
your gonna get a nice yield with scrog. and to your other question

i have a 400 watt and one of my plants was a random seed and it got huge! about 6 ft so my light is as far up as it can go
and its about 8 inch away from the bulb (which isnt cooled) but i have a fan aimed up there and its not burned.

so id say your good

I will be building these and marketing them at a much more reasonable cost than most box manufactureres. Light and air tight and extremely stealth and just plain nice to look at.

They look pretty awesome =) Just for a tad bit of additional info. I run a 600w hps thats aircooled, and I can practically touch the glass without it burning me (I still keep it a bit above the plants, but only because I need a larger light footprint for my grow). I think your gona be just fine with your 150 if its aircooled. Scrog will help you maximize your yield in such a small place with that light, very good choice.
