I have good and bad news. Bad news first, the Ketama hermed. I've never had a plant do this before, but it had definitive male and female parts. I am super confident in my ability to tell, I think I have 8 complete grow cycles behind me, the last of which were two white widow males for pollen. I traded the pollen for a share of the seedy bud when the Hindu Kush female is finished. I have to double check with my friend, but I think we have about 3 weeks left until the Hindu female is finished. The Original Dutch Strain K2 is actually White Widow male crossed with Hindu female. Back to my current grow, when I repotted the Ketama, I found the source of its stress. Ketama is an outdoor strain, and the 3 gallon pot was nowhere near sufficient for her/him. It was completely root-bound at the bottom of the pot, but not the middle, I guess it likes more depth for a deep taproot. Maybe the stress is was stunted and caused it to herm. Anyway, the good news to come from this situation is I have effectively doubled the light on the Kwazulu, which is doing amazing. I moved the HPS and the CFLs so everything is right above/around her. I gave her a pretty hot dose of Flower nutes two days ago, and she is reaching for the sky and happy today. See the next picture. The way I LSTed her, she has 8 tops, and 5 or 6 middle/medium buds that still get good light. 3 of which are within 2 inches of a 42 watt CFL. The true top is about 8 inches long, including the bend from the final tie down, and solid bud. She started producing a good amount of resin that smells like grapefruit/kerosene when you touch it. I would post better pics but I can't take the plant out of the tent. I realized "staking" her to the back corner post of the tent was probably a bad idea (oh well, 1 more way not to grow).
In my veg box, 4 fem seedlings are doing great, all are growing their 2nd set of leaves with the 3rd (first full leaves) starting to show. My biggest seedling, one of the either Ketama or Kwazulu reg, has its first full set of leaves. I topped her yesterday. The fourth set was starting and the fifth just showing. I topped the stem a couple millimeters above the first set of true leaves. Somebody tell me if I F-ed this up. LST and topping are new to me. The kwazulu was only tied because it stretched too much and tipped over, then continued to shoot upward, requiring me to tie her down several more times. This accident is probably the biggest single change I've ever made to how I grow. Even if I don't realize the merits of topping, I will still LST all of my plants meant for flower. The next change is going to be cloning. I hope to have 4 or 5 moms in my veg box (which will provide babies for myself and a fellow patient). - These moms will be Super Kush, Acapulco Gold, Morning Glory, maybe Kwazulu if I end up with a female one, or maybe the "K2 strain" that my friend and I bred, and perhaps one more TBD - I was thinking about critical mass - just to ensure my supply even if the quality isn't A+, or possibly blueberry. I love blueberry, but last time I grew it my yield was low (no LST, single main cola). Has anyone grown blueberry using LST that can let me know how it went? Critical Mass? I'm open to other suggestions too, I have the Sativa end covered (which is what I use most of the time), and Super Kush is like 90 % indica, so maybe something more indica dominant but not too heavy in effects. Blueberry is one of those indica dominant plants without a completely crushing stone.
Here are pics....
