150 Watt hps setup

yo guys, im designing a grow box to grow about 4 plants 12/12 from seed im thinking, under a 150 watt hps, i was thinking about 2' by 2' and like 3 or 4 feet tall, does that sound about right? im not a heavy smoker, maybe a ounce a month if ive got any, so thats all i need, im gonna get a few diffrent feminized strains to try out, see what i like the most.

what size pots do you guys recommend and how much cooling? it needs to be quiet, and very little or no smell so ill make a carbon filter to go along with it.

im open to any suggestions or changes or anything, i also have about 10 42 watt 2700k cfls, but i think id rather get a 150 hps, probably cooler, and easier to setup and would probably produce more.

I wouldnt recomend starting your seedlings on 12/12 more like 18-6.

femized seeds are always good for new growers, that way you dont have to pick out males or worrie about males pollinating.

pot size to start off i use 1 gallon pots and end up using 5 gallon pots thro harvest, you can use smaller ( i just do big)

usually i would say go with the hps, but not in ur situation i would say 10 42w cfl's would put in more "work" just cuz its 10 of them compared to the "150" hps.
Cfl's dont get hot, hps 150 will get hot but not very specially if you have a fan.

It's your choice, i just put in my 2 cent

thanks man, but those 42 watts get really hot, like cant touch it after a minuit on, now times that by 10... and ive grown a couple times before, outdoor mostly though, and i wont need close to 5 gallons... its a 12/12 grow, which means they will be flowering very soon after sprouting i will probably let them go on 18/6 for a week first though, a 5 gallon bucket is like the size of my grow space LOL. thanks for the ideas though.

cfls shouldnt get hot are you sure thats what ur using? but if you asy so ok.....

ino what 12/12, im just saying you should let your plants grow a little on 18/6. if you 12/12 to young your not going to get a good yeild.

2 or 3 gallon than. if you get the pots to small it will slow down groth.

yeah ive got a led ill 18/6 under for like 2 weeks.

Hey 4 2 0. I'm pretty much doing the same thing as you except with 3 plants. I'm using a 150 HPS in a small space just under 4 feet tall. Only 1 foot deep and maybe 2 1/2 feet wide. I just planted yesterday so I'll update you and tell you how it goes. I'm only gonna be going 18/6 for a week as well though and then go straight to 12/12. My plan is to end in 2 Gallon bags as I've heard a gallon per foot of your final plant. (2 feet is all the grow space I have). Maybe try LST if your creative and daring? Not sure how far along you are now but I'll update you on how it is. You can find post with my grow box through my name somehow... I'll be following this though.

im running a setup like that u have 2x2x5 high. 150w HPS and i grow 9 1 gallon plants. just use passive intake and exhaust in my closet and it works well. I also have a vegg box thats 2x2x2.5 under it with room for 12 cfl light bulbs, most of the time im only using about half of them while i wait for plants to come outta the flowering bow. Plants are usually around 12 inches when they go into flowering which takes around 4-5 weeks of vegg from clones. Dont getpect to get the highest yeilds with a 150w as 150w isnt that much. If u have the money/ space get a 250w or 400w and ull get much denser buds, most of the stuff i get is airy and i only get about half an once per plant at most right now.

thanks for the input guys, think ill go 1 gallon pots, and 18/6 for a week or so, then 12/12, and 2 by 2 grow space and 3 feet high, wood light proof box, interior coverd in some mylar, my buds a gardner so ill get some quality soil mixed with some locally made fish compost, should be the shit, im stoked. 4 diffrent strains, ordering 1 seed of each feminized, if it doesnt sprout, then ill live without that strain no biggy, going with lemon skunk, northern lights, white widdow and, AK48, should end up with some good bud, id be happy with 3/4 O per plant, well see how it goes, just gotta figure out the cooling... need a carbon filter, and a silent fan... hmm, maybe a couple computer fans or something any ideas on the cooling?

Hey man I'm using two computer fans right now. I actually just finally got them mounted like 15 mins ago. You can wire them to a phone charger or DC adapter from radio shack or wherever. Works pretty well, one for intake bottom right and one for exhaust top left. Just an idea. I still gotta mount the other then I'll take pics and throw a link up here.

thanks man, i was thinking about just useing pc fans, got a couple ideas for carbon filters too, and ill probably just use the cfls for know as itll be cheaper, ill see what 420 watts of cfl can do

im pretty handy and have got most tools or could borrow some from a freind, will probably just mount fan with screws on inside, and a removable/ refillable carbon filter on outside. thanks for the link.

i got a 2'7"x5'11" grow room using a 150w hps can i put new baby seeds that sprouted in thier at 12/12 what would happen??? i also was wondering how much i would get off 4 clones under the 150w hps using pure blend pro grow/bloom/ ocean forest soil then later in the process gravity and snowstorm purple maxx
