I have a locker 30cm by 45cm I was thinking about going led, but the costs at of much for my budget would it be worth trying 150w hps?

A led is at least £100 then the technology changes so fast, I would be peed of when the next best thing comes out, cfls just seem like to much hassle, tried them a few years ago and wasn't impressed.

The only thing I'm thinking is about the heat with hps, but if I put in a heap of cfls will there Realy be much difference in heat compared to a 150 hps. There will be a fan and filter in there to

I would get cfl's bro. Even a 150 watt hps will not warrant your yields in money equivalent for a few grows down the road, with the extra bells and whistles that need investing into when going HID. The heat is unreal man... CFl's once you have a couple hundred watts worth, even they start to roast. I have a 800 watt home made fixture with cfl's, that gets HOT AS FUCK! but no where near as hot as a 1000 watt HPS. That shit burns my head when im leaning under it, like the damn sun if i shave my noggin.

So am I better of getting the large cfls and a reflector or just a few lil ones with a diy fixture. I had the large ones years ago, didn't get much off them. But it was a bigger space probably to big

1000w HPs = A cheaper alternative to going to the local sun tan parlor. aka indoor suntan parlor.

You should get good results with either 1 large CFL or a bunch of smaller ones.

im a 125cfl grower myself and i like cfls due to there reduced heat which allows me to have them closer to my babys. Your welcome

Rule of thumb with cfls, which just came to mind. est way to be sure you wont toast your babys under your choosen CFL method is hold your hand above the babys heads an adjust the height of the cfls to that they feel warm enough to keep your hand warm, if it feels to hot then raise the height of the CFLs then recheck how the heat feals on your hand. and you shoul db able to find a suitable distance too safely allow your babys to get the heat they require to keep them happy on there way to buddonia!

I'm using a bare bulb vertical 1000w MH right now with 10" force flow fan directed up right underneath it, and I've got my babies about 10" from the bulb all around it. How close can you get the CFL's and would it be worth it to supplement my MH with CFL?

I would go with whatever is cheapest to start, probably bulk buy small ones, and rip sockets out of broken shit and wire them up yourself. You can get plants as close to the light as you can get your hand to it without being too uncomfortable, or hot. use your hand and feel it out. if your skin starts to burn, so will the leaves.

that's what I did for my MH, they are as close as I can get em without burning the back of my hand.

Go with DIY cfl, make sure you go with reflective walls, and that shit about CFls not having heat probs is bull. They wont burn your plants unless they are right on top of them, but the ambient temps still go way up once you have 100 true watts of em so plan some exaust

Yeah cfls heat up too. Bulb prices add up because you need a bunch
to really light up the plant. You need to keep them as close as possible
to get decent light penetration.

With cfls you are also needing to move them constantly during growth
so you dont burn your plants.

My first grow was cfl and now I will never go back after 1.5 hps grows.
Dont get me wrong, cfls do work but there are better alternatives.

I'm just thinking about the size of your grow space here. in a locker you can really only grow one plant at a time. so you should be fine with maybe 4 x 42w and maybe 2 or 3 23w thrown in for the sides. that's over 200w on a single plant. should be sufficient as long as you keep the temp down and keep the bulbs close.
