Ok so here is my question my ladys are 1 week old 2day as of now my 400 watt MH lamp has been on 24/0 I was wondering if it is nesesary and why to change it to 18/6 or will they grow faster if they are alwayse under light for veg??

I suppose it just uses more energy. The only reason I could think of for keeping it on 24/0 is when you're using CFL's, which you're not. I think it's more personal choice. Remember, they call it weed for a reason. It's a weed.

I run a 1000 watter. I know that 18/6 works better then the 24hrs. They seem to need arest. I would go 18/6.

If you're on a budget then go 18/6,but if not go 24/0 until you're ready to flower her out.KEEP SMOKE ALIVE!!

Either one will be right. I say pick one and run with it. Pay close attention to growth rate then in your next grow try the other cycle and see which you like better. I've run both and had practically identical results. With an 18/6 cycle I save a little cash but more importantly I'm able to keep the room temps a little lower which can be an issue for me in warmer months.

I know growers who have very well documented growth increases running 24/0 over 18/6 though. Growing the same strain (clones from the same mother) over a 2 year period they found that they could cut their veg time by 10 days before reaching the desired height to switch over to 12/12.

I've read articles in magazines, chapters from MJ cultivating literature and numerous forum posts all across the internet making a case for both cycles. There are actually write-ups by reputable breeders that pretty much say to throw those 2 standard cycles out the door completely and fine tune what your strain tells you it wants... I have an article by the breeder DJ Short actually saying that for sativas he recommends the light cycle mimic equitorial photoperiods close to 13/11 during veg!

The bottom line is, neither cycle is "wrong" but one may suit your needs more than the other. Good Luck, hope this helps.

Right on, man. I would love to see any links you have.

I have tryed them Both and I am set with 18/6 look at my pics on my site below.
What i have noticed is the people with less wattage can run 24 but the higher wattage does better at 18/6. When i switched i noticed a difference in growth in 1 day. yea 1 day.
