as long as ur hand dont burn when u place them above the canopy then it shudnt burn ur plants and also as long as ur temps stay below 85 then i cant see u having probs !
 
1' away with a 400 is a little close...but you have a cooltube so you should be ok as long as the temp stays down
 
12" is pretty ideal for a 400w. As long as there are no signs of heat stress you can get it pretty close.

thanks for all the help i just droped it cuz they were stretching wen i touch the glass it doesnt burn it just feels a lil worm
 
use the hand above the plants test
and keep your temps no more than 85
30 cm for air cooled HPS should be ok
