1K vs 2 400's (more lumens vs better coverage)

Here is the deal, I am running two 400's right now (one HPs the other MH) I am going to have a 1k HPS in my possesion in a week or so. I can not run all of them (not enough space and no desire) 800 watts are working great 1800 in an overkill. The space is 3'x3' with 8 plants

The 1K is coming my way serendipitisly, no money or service for it.

What is everyones suggestion? keep the two 400's / drop the 4's for the K. Is it better to have more lumens or a better spread?

any thoughts would be appriciated

thanks much love

Keep the two 400s and buy better bulbs if your ballast allows it. two 400w cmh bulbs will outperform any setup you can achieve with hps/mh.

OK I did a little reading on the Ceramic Metal Hallide, I currently have one HPS and one MH ballasts, which eleminates getting two CMH's. Unless I am mistake about them running on HPS bllasts only.. The price of the bulbs aint so bad, but I am not getting another ballast, I have to many as is..

Great suggestion I had never heard of CMH bulbs before, thanks.

There are CMH bulbs that work on both ballasts. The GE Retro white works exclusively on HPS ballasts but the Philips Energy Advantage CDM lamps with AllStart™ Technology work on MH ballasts as well. Check the info pdfs from the manufacturer for more specific information. :)

Glad I could help!
