1st CFL Grow....here we go

A day off. A day to chill and do nothing in the privacy of a quiet house. After a week of all-of-a-sudden-being-employed-full-time-again... it's my day to chill.

I woke up normal time, but instead of having to rush to the shower and get all dolled up to face the working world, I was blessed with the very much earned day off with no obligations. I headed to the coffee pot and the couch, passing the magic room, looking in and nodding at the magic room's magic closet's door. The magic closet is where Tessa, Lisa, Minnie, Veronica and baby live. Closed and tight, all snug and safe, cords coming out of the bottom corner, taking advantage of the available electric outlet nearby. At 7am, they were hunky-dory.

I go into the magic room about an hour and a half later, somewhere around 8:30am and pull out a nug I'd acquired from a stash I'd tucked elsewhere in the magic room.

The hallway was dark. The door from the hallway to the magic room was open. The room was cast in the mid-morning light of dawn and the magic closet's door.....the door was open. It was about a foot ajar, letting in just enough of the mid-morning sun to allow me to see a silhouette of each plant individually.

Doh! With the cords running under the door, it doesn't latch, but fits snugly in the frame. Prying, curious, stoner kitty paws have somehow found a way........

It was closed when the magic plants went to bed. It was closed when I checked around 7am. They weren't due to wake up for another hour and a half when I discovered the door open. I snuck in and quietly closed the closet door again, giving them back their required darktime. Worse case scenario, they received light 2.5-3 hours too early.

I'm hoping they're okay with the light intrusion.

Freaking cats have learned to open doors.

They're about to wake up now. Off to go talk to plants....

ya, i'd love someone to experiment with different lighting scenerios (bulb doesn't come on for a day, light leaks, extra light during flowering) and map out exactly what happens. i suspect not much but there are a lot of scare-mongerers out there that freak out about getting hermies with the slightest unexpected lumen.

Realistically it was probably no more than a plant would receive planted in the middle of a field under a clear night and a full moon, but it was against everything I knew and it made my heart fall out of my chest for a moment there.

Girlies are starting to get furry bits in their crevices. I've pulled a couple branches out to get more light. So far they're looking happy to be showing their hairs.

Job's going well. The sudden thrust back into a 40-hour work week has me not online much.

Plants are doing well. We have 4 girls and the unsexed baby. I recently took some clipplings I'm trying to root from my two best girls.

From my pictures to yours I can tell hydro produces a fuller plant. My plants are more gangly, but they look healthy and they're definitely showing their girly bits.

fuck
fuck

woke up this morning to a faint "mreow" "mreow"

Sure enough....stoner kitty had hidden in the magic room last night when I closed up the door.

As I opened the door to let him out I'm slapped in the face with the smell of fresh greenery.

Yup. the closet door's open. Stoner kitty had opened the door the night before, while locked in the magic room because HE'S A DUMBSHIT AND HIDES FROM ME AT BEDTIME, he went right in, helped himself and did lord knows what.

After ushering him out, I closed the door again, making sure it was securely latched.

Thankfully, it was before sunrise when I caught this, but I'm not looking forward to when the girls wake up. It's only after the lights go on I can assess the damage.

grrrrrrrr. I'd just moved beautiful, bushy, fully flowering Lisa to the front of the closet. I know he ate her. :cuss:

i love it when there is "drama" in a grow. You don't normally associate emotional ups and downs with something that moves so slow that you can't actually see progress in real time. But everything changes when the stakes are this high!

the j-o-b is looking to be a positive choice. things are going well there.

Stoner kitty munched a little on Lisa. One side of her had half her fan leaves nibbled on. Thankfully the cat prefers fan leaves over buds. All the big mature fan leaves were toast. I had to trim her a little. I think I only lost one bud, but she looks nekkid without her fan leaves.

Will post a pic momentarily. Plants have crossed the 19" mark. The baby is finally over 5", too.

If my math is right, I am looking at a 1/15 harvest time frame.

stoner kitty is good. He's nice and happy. The bastard! I've started getting into the habit of putting a chair in front of the door to the magic closet. The thing I have to laugh about, though, is this is the kitty that will leave the room if you're smoking. He hates the smell of pot. ...but will eat my plant. gheesh!

Came in the house yesterday after a long day's work and was greeted with the smell of the plants. They're behind two closed doors, but it's official. Any visitor would smell it. Can't have company for another month.

Working again has kicked my ass and I'm tired. I haven't taken pictures or measured in two days. They are still hanging in there.

One of them had some fan leaf damage from when I gave them nutes. I guess she got too much. I ended up trimming off the damaged fan leaves so the top of the plant is one big stem with buds. YAY!

Another of the plants is really taking off on the fan-leaf development. The new leaves are huge and dark and healthy looking. It's an odd plant. Buds are in the creases but it's still developing huge fan leaves up top. I'll try to take a picture tonight.

I guess we're about 3 weeks into flower. 4-5 weeks until harvest. YAY!

None of my clones have taken root yet. I was hoping they'd be ready for dirt in about another two weeks. Keep your fingers crossed.

The "light rack" is about 3 or 4 suspension curtain rods and some of the clamp on lights you buy at Lowe's or any hardware store. I use the rods so I can raise and lower the lights easily and to route the cords away from the plants. The clamp-on lights swivel, too, so that's a plus. I threw a bedside lamp in there with a y-connector, a small adjustable-arm desk lamp without the shade that stays on the baby, and a tall corner lamp with an adjustable arm as well. I tied up a fan that I move around throughout the day and I have a humidifier that I never run now because it stays around 30%-50% on its own.

In the picture, left to right in the back row is Veronica3, Minnie4, the baby, IThinkICan6 and Tessa1 on the far right. Lisa2 LST is in the front. You can barely make out the baby just to the above right of Lisa.

Veronica3 is asserting her independence. All of a sudden the fan leaves at the top are sprouting at an unbelievable rate and they're coming out already huge. The new leaf pod is about an inch or two before it opens to show leaves. There is no sign of a cola super-bud where one should be yet, but all the sides are filling in with hairs.

Minnie 4 is quietly sitting in the back. I need to get her a new pot. a bigger pot. I'm a slacker and haven't done it yet and she tells me every time I go in there.

Tessa1 lost most of her upper fan leaves in a nute burn incident, but she has a good fuzzy bud forming at the peak.

I'm happy with how they're doing. Waiting these next few weeks is going to be rough.
