Day 39:

Been a while since last update, where to begin!

Many changes, not long after the last update the plants started showing problems, looked like Mg def, but also root rot setting in. I pinned the problem down to the fogger unit. The condensation caused algae and mildew to grow in the rails making everyone unhappy. I experimented with a DIY water chiller made from an a/c unit, but in the end ditched the fogger, did a whole system rebuild and started using Mayan Microzyme to colonize my new res. Since then the plants made a turnaround and are happy even though I was set back a week or two.

Day 40:

A week after the plants were pruned/topped the new growth is coming faster and faster. Under the hood a new network of healthy roots can now be seen growing above the mass of burned roots that got hit with rot. Brown sugar added 2 days ago which lowered pH a bit but is stable. Also added 2gal H20 at that time which immersed more roots in solution, probably why they aren't as perky but they is growing. :) #4 which is 30d not 40d is now leading the way in growth. I tied down #2 2days ago because it was not doing much on top but doing alot of side shooting, looks content with the LST.

Day 41:

Plants still droopy, took the advice given and used some spare panda film on the lid. Didn't have a way to take the system offline for a day or two to paint, at least it significantly lowered the amount of light making it into the res. Also did a res change and retuned the nute soup:

10 gal H2O
30ml Micro
60ml Bloom
15ml MMZ
90ml Sweet

490ppm pH 5.9

you can see what the old res water looked like in the pics.

Day 46:

Day 6 since reservoir change. Reservoir balanced at 490-510ppm 5.8-6. All week no corrections. Picked up some Liquid Karma and a free sample of Pure Blend Pro Bloom. I wanted to up my ppms a little and give the plants a taste of the humic acids in the PBP. PBP bloom is easier to add with the lucas formula so I won't be using PBP grow at all. The bene bacteria in the Mayan Microzyme should love the organic extracts in the PBP and LK, to be safe Ill try to keep res temps between 66-70F for the next 2 days. Did a full run of pics today since I added nutes. The plants are perky again and roots have exploded in the last 48 hours, another full run of pics in 48-72hrs to see how my top off formula was received. Here's my top off:

70mL Liquid Karma
30mL PBP Bloom
1 gal tap water
Ppm: 2080

Res before top off 510ppm, after top off 710ppm ph 5.7, right where I wanted it.

Oh yeah about my last Res that went brewery on me. The sugars I used have been exposed to air in the kitchen for some time. Almost positive stuff has cultured on the sugar that saw my Res as a buffet. No more quick fix additions to my Res going forward!

Day 47 (37):

Took a quick peek at the plants today, looking good. Wasn't going to take pics today but looks like preflowers are coming in. First 2 pics are of the biggest one #4, looks like it's gonna be a girl, can see the little pistils. #3 looks like it may be female also but I couldn't snap a photo. #2 that I LST'ed looks like it may be a boy, last pic is of what might be future balls.

Day 48 (38):

All is well, checked under the hood, roots going nuts, all plants hit the water and #4 has fishbones going under the water line. Not sure how much LK helped since roots were taking off before I added it, but it certainly didn't hurt and looks like accelerated growth. As of right now im 90% sure #1 and #2 are males, #3 and #4 are females and #5 is still an unknown. Knowing that I have 2-3 girls to work with I'm wondering how best do setup clones to fill up the system and have some going for next cycle. I was thinking about putting some coco grow in a net pot, wet it with the nute solution that's already full of enzymes, hormones, vitamins and benes and stick the pots right in the main system. The sprayers wouldn't hit the clones with any nute soup until the roots grew a few inches through the coco, that should work right?

I am just seeing leafs Kaiser, where are the pistils?
Still a bit small to capture with my camera but I can see pistils on the preflowers at nodes 6 and 7 on plants #3 and #4. The preflowers on #1 and #2 are more bulbous with no sign of pistils. I can see the start of preflowers on #5 but still a bit too small to tell what it is without magnification.

Day 50(40) :

Looks like sexing is done, no stamens showing up to the party on #5 so that puts the tentative scorecard at 2 girls 3 boys. If they are what they are once flowering starts #1 and #5 are getting culled and #2 now named Bob will have a clone or two taken for later use. #3 and #4, now Bec-Bec and Kitty had a few fan leaves pinched and some light LST done Friday night. The side shoots are coming out as expected so I should have plenty of clones to fill up the system. Question, is it possible to take a big clone right into flower or do they have to re-veg first? Res wise I've been having no troubles. I've been at 1080ppm for 3 days now and everyone is happy. I'm pretty happy overall with the Botanicare products I have and intend to switch to CNS17 for my main nutes next cycle.

Day 41 (51) :

Turning back time a bit, going with the younger Kitty's age for my journal. Even though Bec-Bec is 10 days older then Kitty, I prefer to consider the true day 1-10 as a false start. :) Final pics of #1, culled him today due to #5's crazy root growth. Going to cull #5 soon and #1 as soon as I can get a good clone off it. I also included pics from 6 days ago as a comparison, under the hood in the back right was #1, quite a bit of root growth and top growth in the last week.

Day 44 (54)

Just showcasing Bob today. This was formally #2 and the male I'm keeping around for crosses. This guy had good vigor early on and took quite well to a little LST and a FIM. A big draw to C99 besides a buzzsaw cutting high (can't wait to confirm) was that it's known for not going hermie. That's something I would definitely like to pass onto a homemade cross like say OG Kush x C99 or G13 x C99 or Cheese x C99.

Day 45 (55)

Kitty is up to 10" now, Bec-Bec at 7". I needed a home for clones as 12/12 day is quickly approaching. I turned my dresser/tv stand into a foster home for clones using a 15W 6500K CFL and my fogger res with 20ml/gal Liquid Karma, 5ml Mayan Microzyme and 3.5gal H2O. I stuck a clipping from Bob to test it out. I'll have an air pump in there next week when cloning really starts.

Day 46 (56)

Bec-Bec stands at 8in and Kitty pushing 11in. I decided to start flowering. Today marks 24hrs of dark and 12/12 starts tomorrow. Here's a final shot of #5, he got culled today. I took a couple clippings and threw them in the cloner just in case. He was 9in tall and the rootball was 2ft long! Funny how the roots actually sitting in the soup were nice and white and the ones in air were stained.
