UPDATE**

dimensions of 2 drawer file cab are:

18" deep x 15" long x 29" high

the frame of the cabinet without the drawers does not have a bottom

im thinking of cutting the bottoms out of both drawers and leaving them to their normal slide function to still be able to access my plants inside. does come with a lock and key which i have to lock both drawers

my questions?

1. best way to cut the bottoms out of the drawers being thin sheet metal?

2. what lighting to use given the previous dimensions

3. ventilation aspects? 2 pc fans 1 passive air intake? etc?

would love to hear what ppl would do if they had my exact cab??

heres some pics below

1. best way to cut the bottoms out of the drawers being thin sheet metal?

With a Side Cutter i think you can handle this

2. what lighting to use given the previous dimensions

i think you can put in a 200W CFL, search on google for cheap price, ive got one from Plug&Grow, envirolite is also recommendable

3. ventilation aspects? 2 pc fans 1 passive air intake? etc?

2x120mm Intake and 1x120mm Outtake (Intake needs double the size of outtake)
Wire all the fans with a old Pc Power Supply, when you need i can search for you how you start a power supply without a computer

___

When you got temp problems you can put a plexi glass under the CFL light, i also do this in the next few days, people say it solves often theyre temp probs.

Regards

thanks for the love homie, i will just have the envirolight at the top? maybe have it adjustable with a chain..

as for the plexiglass idea do u have any pics of this or ways to set that up?

fans, any suggested area on the cab to put them? (i.e, 1 intake bottom and side, 1 outtake top)?

and as far as pc supply what wattage would u also reccomend? vid/tutorial floating around? dont wanna zap myself lol

definitely appreciate the response

I'm going to disagree on the fans. There are a couple of things there.
With passive intake you want at least 2x area as the area of your exhaust.

Everything I've read about growing in cabs/tents is that you want negative pressure inside the cab, not positive. The reason for this is so all air exiting the cab will be blown through the odor filter and not through the cracks in the case where there is no odor control.

You definitely need odor control. Ona and such are suspiciously strong. You can't live in a room with a good ozone generator going on. Carbon filter is really the best way to go about it and pc fans have a hard time with static pressure and have enough air flow to properly cool.

Your intake will need to have a light trap of some sort on it to keep it from lighting up your closet.

I would ditch the drawers completely. Fix up a board over the front as a face on it. Not as stealth but put something in front of it.

I don't like cfls even though I'm using them in one of my cabs. I'd definitely recommend building a "cool tube" type fixture for it to help with heat if you go that route. I need to build a new one myself.

I think I'd paint the metal insides white or put mylar up over them.

UPDATE***

alright after some debate im calling it a day and going with this 200w 2700k CFL w/ light socket/hanger combo from amazon

light
Amazon.com: Feliz 200 Watt CFL Grow Light 2700K with Reflector: Patio, Lawn & Garden

ventilation im going with 3 120mm pc fans however im still trying to find good one on newegg..my preference is low noise level(dBA) - airflow/rpm

here is the 120mm fan selection
Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Fans & Heatsinks, Case Fans, 120mm

i was wondering if i can use one of these fan controllers?
Newegg.com - Controller Panels, Fan Controller Panels

then ill need a 3 amp 12v DC converter? if so where do i find that?

Air Quality last i will be doing this DIY active charcoal scrubber found on here.. thought it was pretty cool!

i really do appreciate the response! odor isnt an issue, my house smells like shit already lol.. i will def be putting up mylar w/some silver/foil tape..i was thinking of making a cheap carbon filter i saw outta a/c pencil cup and some nylon on grasscity..and as for lgiht traps i have no idea how to make those either

have some work to do i see!

any other replys or responses welcome!

There's a post on my thread about how I made my light trap.

Pot smells and can be unmistakable. You don't want anyone to know, you need odor control. At the very least you want to try the diy filter. Look up ScrubNinja and he has a post on icmag about how to properly stack pc fans to try getting better airflow/pressure out of them to use with carbon.

Also, growing from seed everytime can be quite expensive unless you get reg seed and manage to seed a crop

I agree i was jus thinking how expensive doing autos all the time would be im thinking of jus order them in bulk.. maybe order some fem and some regs 2 at a time and hope i get a male..wit fans bloeing in their its sure to seed yes?

In this space i personally would just do a 80mm intake and a 120mm out. 200 watts is plenty for in there. You see what im doing with 156 watts in a tad bit bigger cab. I think the way you described in your pm about the light arrangement would do fine. You should think about sealing the entire top where the lights are gonna be with silicone and a piece of glass. This way your lights and cab arent connected and you can displace your heat easier. If you did this you could put 1 40mm outtake with a 2 inch passive whole in the sealed lighting chamber and under the glass in the cab 1 120mm out and 2 3 inch passive wholes.

And micros number 3 question-Not entirely man, the rule of thumb for twice as many intakes as outtakes is best used with passive intake wholes. If your using fans to pump cool air IN you want twice the outakes as its easier on the carbon scrubber and fans. Air in is not near as important as air out in micro cabs stand point. Plus you will be circulating the same air over and over.<<<made that mistake

Peace and Fire!

how would u go about sealing the top with solicone and glass? u got a pic or some basic steps on that? thanks for the reply boss!

I would use 1x2 board and line the left and right sides. Then get your measurements and head to him depot. They wont cut custom glass but will acrylic. Hopefully theyll have your exact size in glass. Put the glass on top the boards(kinda like hanging the shelves in those cheap bookcases. except pegs youll have wood. run a smooth bead of silicone across where the glass touches the metal. if your glass doesnt fit exact, get some weather stripping and start building it up in the gab between glass and metal. hope that makes since

But def go look at scrubs stuff....and def tell him I sent you except my icmag name is detonesmoker...hes always up late and loves to talk growing:)

im quitting life lol.. you got a picture? lmfaooooo

kinda think of your refrigerator shelves. top shelf lights, under the top shelf cab...then just seal all gabs around shelves that would allow the air to mix together.

your turning the top 7-10 inches of your cab into a a sealed hood pretty much.
im literally looking into my refrigerator at the plexiglass panes lol.. so basically... when it comes to making the sealed area..i can take the dimensions of my cab and get plexiglass about as big if not a little bigger for wiggle room then im attaching that plexiglass to wood frame that is screwd into each wall of the cab?

or instead of woood, silicone weather stripping as close to the area below my light then silicone the plexi to the weather stripping?

yup...then set the plexiglass what ever you get on the wood. then seal the surrounding edges with whatever will give you a air tight seal......LOL sry man dont know of any pics im trying to explain.

do i have to use would at all? cant i just silicone weather stripping in a square frame around the cab then silicone the plexi glass on top?
