your cfl might be more efficient than the 250W hid. you'll be able to get it closer. now..........a 400..........that would be different.

HPS > CFL all the time.

HPS brings a lot more heat than a CFL though and that could be an issue which would cost more $ in extra venting or fan cooled hoods.

As for flowering. You can't bet an HPS. CFL fails in comparison. Vegetative growth cfl's do just fine if not better than MH. Speaking from experience here. HID bulbs(HPS/MH) come with heat, a great deal of heat so you have to spend more to handle it.

And to add on to what was just said, you have to keep in mind the noise that all of your equipment is going to make and how to keep it as low as you can. And when it comes to the lights, think about you electric bill.

Yea i decided to go with the CFL set. Ill add on a couple of extra 11-23watts a few weeks forward if needed.

just my opinion, i wouldnt use any sort of CFL for flowering.. like someone already said they dont come close to HPS. i would go for 100watt or more in CFLs per plant, then once you hit flowering i would go for either a 400 or 600 HPS.. i am using a 100watt CFL for 2 plants for veging, and 1 600watt HPS for flowering which in my opinion is working very well. my electric bill hasnt really changed. but happy growing, GW

I use CFL and found it cheap and easy to get along with. Probably not as much yield - maybe try some autoflowering seeds as your all done in a couple of months - I'm chopping one of mine tomorrow (not auto) it's been growing since April - I could have had 2 harvests with autos in that time and probably twice as much yield?
