1st time indoor please help me

this will be my first attempt in trying to grow indoor. i have a plant finishing outdoor and now want to try indoors. i would like to grow 1 or 2 plants in my closet. im just not sure what i will need to have a successful grow

if you want to grow in soil, and you need to save some cash, you could start out with a bag of low nute soil (brands like fox farms light warrior or ocean forest, scotts premium potting soil, or miracle grow organic) some solo cups to germinate (assuming youre starting from seed), a plastic tray for water drainage, an oscillating fan 6-8" (you dont need anything too big), lighting- you could go with a couple inexpensive screw in cfl's with bowl reflectors 23-65watt are the least expensive and you could just add more as your canopy's area gets bigger. After you have all this, you could paint the closet flat white, or purchase some mylar, which you can get from a hydro store, or if thats not an option, you could get an emergency blanket from the outdoors section of a wal-mart, target, etc... this will suit you for 1-2 weeks, then you will have to transplant to a larger container (and you can make your own out of old milk jugs, garbage bags, or many other things).... hope this helps... happy growing!

nice information guys. i cant wait to get started. i dont know if i want to try it with just bagseed so if i do something wrong i wont be out of money buying something good. but on the other hand, if im gonna do it why not use the good seeds.

Research....research everything you want to know and if I were you don't go by what one person says... you have to take this into consideration, no matter what anyone tells you, just take it as advice and research for yourself. Every grow room is different, diff size, diff environment, light, heat, air, water... whatever nutrients you decide to go with... a good site for information is www.greenmanspage.com. I always ask veterans advice, they grew way before all this bullshit started... so I would research, there's a way to figure out the lumens you need for the size of the room you are using... the more light the better... Metal Halides produce up to 125 lumens per watt compared to 39 lumens per watt on flourescent... your suppose to shoot for 5000 lumens per square foot....since the plants in all reality aren't getting the full lumens the light produces, you convert to lux which is the intensity that light hits a surface.... the light you buy will have the lumens on it....like I have 223,000 lumen my room is 90 square ft. so I have 2477 lumens per sq ft...which equals to 26,670 lux....your plants need at least 25,000 to produce good growth and buds.... anything over 50,000 lux is pushing it.... the sun produces 90,000 on a clear day on the earths surface and it's like us getting sun burnt... imagine what it will do to your plant! To measure how high to hang the light I do this... I put my arm right on the top of the plant... if it feels too warm...it's prob too warm for the plant... they say you can go up to 36 inches away from the top of the plant... I go by how it feels on my skin... If your not sure how to convert lumen/lux there are conversions online... like most flourescents have 6 bulbs and they produce 4000 lumens.... my 1000 watt Mh produces 115,000 lumens.... I mean it just depends on how much money you are willing to spend, MH are good for veg growth and HPS are good for flowering.. there's difference in light spectrums... MH produce blue...and HPS red... I would def clean your closet out top to bottom and use a bug bomb before you even consider putting MJ in there.... it might save you alot of fustration... pests love indoor grow rooms!!!! mylar, you can get it at any horticulture retailer or little thin pieces at any craft store. they also make emergency blankets out of it, you may already have some!

i do have a brand new emergency blanket! i also went and got a oscillating fan, digital temp and humidity monitor, a timer, and 2 daylight 6500k 1600 lumen 26 watt=100 watt cfls. will that be enough light to grow one plant or should i get 1 or 2 more?

will i need more than 2 lights for veg?

This is the million dollar question. I can never get a solid answer as it seems there are too many answers. Right now I am using 4 26W (100W Flor. Equiv) 5,600K CFLS for one bag seed plant... just planted it yesterday so I don't know it what I have is adequate. You can click on my grow area on my sig below and See what I am doing. This is my first ever grow too.

I am considering getting the following two CFLs for Veg and Flower.

Veg - 150 Watt - 5U CFL - 500 W Equal - 5000K Full Spectrum - Min. Start Temp. 0 Deg. F - 80 CRI - 53 Lumens per Watt

Flower - 150 Watt - 8U CFL - 650 W Equal - Mogul Base - 5000K Full Spectrum - Min. Start Temp. 0 Deg. F - 84 CRI - 61 Lumens per Watt

First one is about $40 and the second is $60. I figure I need one each for every plant I grow. THAT IS, if what I currently have planned doesn't work.

Like I said I am starting with 4 X 26W (100W flor. equiv.) 5,600K CFLS for Veg., then switching to 2 X 40Watt (150W flor. equiv.) 2,700K CFLS for flower. If these fail, then I will purchase the above expensive CFLs.

Thats just my two cents. Not worth even that... lots of experience on the site RIU rulz.

well i got everything set up but it gets too hot. in the 90s. even with a fan. so i dont know what im gonna do. i have it in a cabinet

Take a look at my box... you need exhaust fans and only a passive intake opening. This will help significantly. That was my issue too in the beginning.
