2 600watt MH on a 1000watt ballast?

ok, my friend came home with a 1000 watt switchable ballast and is running 2 600 watt MH bulbs off it.

Can this be done? Well I know it can be done I saw it at his house. but what is the deal? are they just not running at there full potential?

this would be nice to do as I would like to run a single 1000 watt HPS with a 600 watt MH in a single hood on a light mover. I would run two hoods. Each would have 1000 and a 600 in it.

will i know you can run up four 250 wtters or two 4oo wtters of a i000 wtt ballest.never herd of tw0 600wtters.. i bet it not powering the bulbs to there fullest potetial

whether it can be done is irrelevant really, its never a good idea to mix and match ballasts and bulbs IMO, chances of things going pear shaped are far greater. Only have to keep an eye on the news to see how many grow ops go up in flames. Its a risk despite what anyone else tells you.
