Well with that much light and just one medium sized plant thats probably the way to go. May as well crank those lights if you can cool it. If you had more plant then a standard orientation would light more area but for whats going on in there you are maximizing the light you can throw at the plant so good job.

Are u going to continue to grow in that style? Just one plant if so ur good. If you add more plants and put the lights flat then you have a harder choice. I personally think you COULD get more from two lights than one but it would take a learning curve. This is just something I personally learned works for me and might work for you. When I first started using my 315s I was trying to grow in the style I always had and did okay, but after multiple rounds I have figured out how to maximize the small light. So I use two nets and a strain that has a decent stretch but nothing too crazy. I let the plants hit first trellis and start to reach for the second, I then remove everything below the top 3-4 nodes (either right before flip or during first few days of flower). I then do leaf stripping 14-21 days depending how fast the buds set. And strip again at 42 days. The goal is to have no buds sites below the bottom trellis and a shorter over all canopy since the penetration is not as good as higher wattage light. But with two lights you can cover more sq ft so even with a shorter overall canopy you can come out ahead yield wise. Now I've never done it with hps but I'd think 500 watts hps is about equivalent to a 315 in my opinion. And since you look to have a decent amount of sq ft to use but low ceilings I def think it would be worth a try. I don't have the picture on this device but if u go over to the 315 club post and look for my post (it's not too far back) you can see how it worked out for me. First time yet I've hit a gpw and I've been trying for a long time with all different kinds of lights and styles of growing. Not ashamed to admit that either cause a gram per watt is not as easy to hit as some people think, I've been trying for a long time and was stuck around .81 gpw.

Thanks for your reply brother! I've always believed that 2 lights is the way to go with. In this case I ended up with a mystery bag seed. However, I'm in complete agreement with your assertion on a shorter canopy. I've always wanted to go SOG, but until recently I had to grow on the DL. My next grow will be SOG. With that said, I have always wanted to try training the plant to grow sideways & up if that makes sense. So many different styles to try out. I'm also interested in a method similar to your described style with removing ancillary branches so that the plant will maximize the main stronger branches if that makes sense. So many growing styles, so little time lol. Thanks again for your time to reply!

i don't think people use led any more.
Actually many people are switching to LED now. The technology has improved drastically. I'm currently trying the HLG Rspec quantum boards to cut down on heat and so far I'm really impressed. I love my cmh lights though, and will turn them back on when temps drop a little, but will still have the Rspec's running too.

Yes my next growing upgrade is LED Lights...they are much better now and actually affordable.

Have you considered moving the lights a foot closer and hanging a white curtain opposite sides of the plant where the lights are not?
This girl I got going was an unexpected bag seed grow. I would be doing things a bit differently on a planned grow. It's was frowned upon in the past to grow here. Something about laws IDK, lol...but now things here are different and my next grow will be completely legit. I'm framing out and finishing part of my basement for a truly solid grow room with separate veg and flower areas.
