2 plants + 400W + RIU advice = 6 oz harvest for a total newbie!!!!!

my fist land lord (many years ago before I got my own) I meet a month or so after I got the apartment at the place I bought smoke :D

if you have two tents now and a 400W you should maybe consider a Veg and a flowering tent ?

a 400W do cover about 3x3 feet so should be ok, just need some training IMO
maybe get a 250W MH for the small tent and Veg in there wile you flower with the 400W in the big tent ? and harvest every 8-10 week

do you run some kind of ventilation/filter ?

I live in a studio apartment that's 12x14. I cannot have two tents going on a continual basis. Someday, when I have a bigger space, I will do just that. But I'm very limited in doing one grow at a time, putting everything away in between and inviting all my friends over for a while, then shutting the doors for 4-5 months while I grow the next round.

My vent/filter system is sub-par, and that's one thing I will change for the next round. I have a clean-room air purifier that I operated when the tent was open during the day. It did a really good job keeping the smell from seeping into the hallway (no one could smell it), but my apartment itself reeked. I will up my game in that department next time around.

What I would REALLY like is a self-cooling light that would allow me to keep the tent closed at all times and a carbon filter on the exhaust. I am going to look in to that. If I can do it relatively cheaply, I'll do that and keep the second light in storage until I can run two simultaneous tents.

agree what you need is a cool tube or even better a cool hood for that 400W and a active carbon filter and ventilation, a 4" might do the job but if you have the money a 5" or even 6" with speed control is to prefer, as Im also thinking about noise in a small space like that (I guess you sleep right next to it) a 6" running on 50% make much less noise then a 4" on full speed you can even get some ducting that is insulated and if noise still is to much to sleep a DIY wooden box for the ventilation will remove most noise

Thanks!! I almost feel like growing the same strain just to see how I can do better. But there really is such amazing variety out there, I have a list of about 15 strains I'd like to try.

What I really need is a big space where I can run a proper op with a clone room, veg room, breeding room, flowering room and drying room. :) Damn, sounds like I need to move to Cali.

But since that's not happening anytime soon, I think I'll grow Spacedawg next. Then maybe Kali Mist. Then maybe another Subcool strain before growing some bagseed that I'm VERY curious about. The seeds came from a few buds procured from an old family friend who smoked daily for something like 60 years -- a great guy with a huge personality. He was connoisseur of many things, and I'm pretty sure he only bought A+ smoke. He recently died, and I have these seeds here I'd like to sprout. It would be a nice way to connect to him.

Maybe I should just do his next. Decisions, decisions...
 
Maybe...a surprise every now and then is a good thing, right?

And the Jillybean was a great grow for me. She seems like a nice, hardy plant. Seemed very easy to care for. And a pretty high yielder if a newbie can get 6oz off two small plants under 400 watts.
 
Meant to ask, when you first started till the time you ended what did you learn along the way? What do you feel you obtained?
 
YEA really nice job there , i have 2 plants also, growing in soil and a 135 w ufo, i don't know if i will reach your yield though. I can't wait to see mine now you opened my appetite!

Hey Redzone! I hadn't realized you had come in on the thread -- I'll answer your question now, though I know it's LATE...

The most important thing I learned is being humble. I knew jack about growing, and was all about gathering as much information as possible and then using my own common sense. It doesn't bother me that I get opposite opinions when I post a question -- I read what people say, think about what they're saying and ask myself the basic questions of "does this make sense" and "is this a principle that is simply about the nature of growing, or does it sound like voodoo?" Then I make up my mind based on what seems most reasonable to me.

I also learned that everyone has a different style of growing. It's like a fingerprint, or a signature. Mine is the path of least interference with the plant. I don't need tons of supplements and gizmos for my res -- just some simple nutes that get the job done. So when I take advice, it helps so have a sense of what style the other grower employs as well. I did learn that some people here give me great advice, and it was the same people over and over again. I've +repped and thanked them all, and if they ever tell me anything else in the future I will pretty much accept it at face value (but notice the "pretty much").

I learned that you can achieve great results by staying simple. I also learned that "a man's got to know his limitations." Mine is with space. I can't veg a 100% sativa for 8 weeks and flower for 14 and expect her to fit in a 5 foot 5 inch tent. I got limitations. And I need to understand how to maximize that and not feel bad when someone tells me I'm not letting the plant live up to her full potential. I know that. And if I have to flip at 5 weeks, then that's what I have to do. It's my limitation, not impatience.

And of course, I learned to be patient and appreciate the miracle of this plant. This plant is friggin' prehistoric! I mean, come on...if it's not pollinated as it comes to the end of its life span, it will try to SELF-POLLINATE. That's fucking cool. Damn.

Enjoy growing! It's a lot of fun -- I missed the girls when I cut them down. But now I'm smoking them...:)
