2 quick questions!!

1) My first indoor grow is now on it's 6th day of 12/12. So far I have 3 of 16 that are definitely female, but I've also got 2 (unfortunately my 2 biggest and best growing plants) that I am 90% sure are starting to show signs of being males.

How long am I safe to leave the males -- or in other words, how long after they show sex will they begin actually pollinating????? I'm wondering if it is safe to wait a few more days just to make absolutely sure that those are indeed males.


2) I am using a 2.5' x 7' grow space (height is not a concern as long as I don't go over 8 feet -- I have 10 foot ceilings). For my next attempt, I am wondering if I would probably get a better yield (and faster cycle time) by going to a SOG method.

So I guess my question is, which would ya'll recommend:
Growing say 6 plants in a "normal" method (6+ weeks vegging then 12/12 for the next 10 weeks --- ie. harvest 3 times a year at max).

-OR-

Growing 20+ plants in smaller containers and running them at 12/12 from the start, or after only a couple of weeks vegging??????

I'm thinking that SOG would allow me more harvests per year, but the yield per harvest might be down -- plus I wonder if the faster cycle will degrade the quality/potency of my crop.

Do you have pics of the plants you think are males? If there are "grapes" then you need to get them out of there. From what I have read you have between a week and two weeks before they pollinate and ruin your life. As far as the SOG, I am not a fan. You are right when you said your yeilds would be down. I like to maximize every plant. Good luck

if there are balls rip them up ur good until the balls open up but then its too late

You should be safe for a few days, hell the females havent begun flowering yet. If any do open, mist them with a spray bottle to neutralize the pollen & get them out of there.
As for Sog - there is an alternative.
I run 2 600w MH/HPS lamps in the same size grow as yours & practice a SCROG.
I got 2 lbs cured last harvest w/ 6 week veg.

Nice grow dude!!!!! I see you are running the same lights I am , except I'm only using one 600-watt light from HTG. Is there a thread on here that fully explains in detail how a SCROG works??? I've looked (to the best of my ability -- I am way behind the times on computers and such. Hell, there were no computers/video games/etc when I was growing up!) but I just can't seem to find a concise explanation. I just finally got the hang of what SOG is, but it sounds like I would get more yield by just growing a half-dozen good plants.

Scrog is just setting a screen up (I put mine @ 29" cause that's how tall my circulation fan is. As the plants hit the screen you just push them back down & force them to go to the next hole. over and over. Before long lots of the lower shoots are as tall as the main cola & you have a level canopy.Other than that its just like a standard organic grow.

So it's basically the same principal as tying one over so it will grow sideways? Do you run the plant under the netting and just allow the growing tips to protrude (or do you weave the plant into the netting?)???

I push/pull them back down & then work them towards the next hole - what you end up with in theory is the whole plant under the screen with just the tips poking through the screen. In truth I get lazy & after 3 or so weeks of doing this I just let them do their thing, sort of a "Shaggy Scrog".

Lol, Shaggy Scrog --- I like that!!!

I may try that on my next grow (I may start geminating some seeds tonight to grow as a SOG (only about a 4 to 6 square foot area) simultaneously with my regular plants, since I just started flowering less than a week ago. Purely a small experimental plot using bag seeds (which is all I have ---- so far). I'd like to see what I can get from that small of an area in around 60 days. It won't cost me any additional $$$ so why not, I might get a few extra ounces that way!!!
