2 weeks enough for cooking supersoil or should I just use regular soil?

Hey RIU,

I've done an awful lot of searching and haven't found a thing concerning this so I thought I'd ask

Is it possible to cook the soil for two weeks and have it be good enough? My plan is to veg in 1 gallon containers in my coco/soil mix for 2 weeks, transplant into 7 gallons and then flower. Would the supersoil even be ready enough at 2 weeks for me to do the bottom 3 gallons with it in my containers or would I just be better off buying regular soil?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Cronik363...I'm making my first batch of soil and its been cooking for a month already but I'm gonna give it another 2 weeks at least...from what I've read the longer the better.

For sure longer is better, but!

If you want to speed up the process, you can make an EWC tea, and spray your soil pile down as you turn it, every 3 days for the next 2 weeks. That will get things cooking pretty good, and innoculate some benificals to help break down the elements further.

Also keep in mind temperature plays a big role in all this soil cooking business, and the closer you can keep things between 65-85 the faster your soil will cook.

Just a simple EWC tea? Nothing else in it? I have a bunch of seedlings I was going to make that exact thing for, EWC and molasses pretty much yeah?

Pretty much I'm going to be getting clones and now that I'm thinking about it I'll likely be going 4 weeks because the time it'll take me to wait for the clones to root in 1 gal pots, top them all, then train them will likely take closer to 3-4 weeks instead of the 2 I'm hoping for. However knowing that I can use EWC tea instead of water when I spray the soil down is extremely good to know. Even if I do go for 4 weeks, if what you're saying is true the super soil will be a little bit better because it's been sitting for 4 weeks with tea being introduced to the environment every 3 days or so correct?

Yep!

A simple EWC and molasses tea, bubbled for 12-24 hours is a great way to innoculate your new soil mixes, or re innoculate used soil for recycling.

(BTW, if you've got acess to the herbs comfrey or nettle, add half a cup of each per gallon when you brew)

Oh man thanks a bunch for the help. I'm gonna be sure to be on the look out for those organic herbs you suggested, it's like $20/lb of each of them on Amazon. Next go around I'm gonna be sure to give those a try in the teas I brew. Thanks again for the advice.

I recently ran into a time problem with not timung the soil batch being ready and my clones needing to be transplanted. So what i did was purchased some 707 roots, ewc and so alaskan humus, did a 1:1:1/2 (707:ewc:humus) and quickly transplanted without cooking. To my suprise the gambled work and they really took off. I kno because i also transplanted some of the clones in just plain 707 and those arnt nearly as lush and big compared to the others. I believe if your mix is light (no other strong additives like guanos) u should be ok. Just keep in mind this method is only for my clones and to get my clones bu for a month or two.
