2000 watt bulb compared to led .....

Hello fellow smokers and growers,

Currently i am running 2 1000 watt hps lights in a cool tube and running 2 1000watt ballast as well but i was looking into switching into LED lights to get rid of the ballast. My question is how many watts from a led light would i need to have the same amount of power that my set up is? would i need 2k watts from led's to be compared or is it lower?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

500 - 600 watts of led to 1000 w Better off with multiple smaller panels like 250 to 350 watt panels. Covers better than one big panel . The best leds no specific order Apollo from Cidly, Fero, Area 51, Bysen, Mag, Black Dog, Hans, Vipar, e-shine - hear good and bad about them , Advanced Led - not a fan but I hear they got some new panels that do pretty good.

To replace 2000w hid, I suggest anywhere from 1200 to 1600 actual led watts. the 500 to 600w recommendation a few posts above is way off, you wont get anywhere close to the same results. It also will depend on which leds you go with and your growing style. It may take a couple harvests beforr you get used to growing with leds so don't judge on the first attempt. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Tent means he's not growing super giants so shouldn't be a problem to covert to LED. I run Apache Tech AT120's and they are great. I get about 1oz/plant in 2 gallon pots doing sea of green in the same size tent. 40 in the tent and still room to work a little + equipment. I have 5 AT120's in there now but 4 would do fine. I used to run 2 600's before I switched. The AT120's only use 158 watts and have equal par readings to the 600. I know you're currently running 1000's but you get my point.

I have also grown 6 plants under 2 apache tech's and gotten just over 1lb so you can go big with them too. One alone is close to 600hps, but when you have a few of them they exceed hps and can pull weight. Plus you'll save 75% on electricity...best part of all.

Sorry but no pics. Supersoil and 1.5 months veg, flowered in 10gallons for the 6 plant one, so i put in some time to get that. I am just getting together a test grow for them that will be fully documented and have lab tests done. It will be SOGish style again with but they want me to use just 4, which should be just fine. I want to veg a little more for this grow to show off the lights a little bit more. Supersoil is cooking up right now for mine. Another guy is doing the hydro version and will also be documented. I'll be posting it all so keep you eyes open for the thread in a month or so.

Easy brother. I read your post thoroughly, more than once before I made my comment. The question was how many watts of led did he need to replace 2000w hid. You answered 500-600w which was not realistic so I had to speak up. Going back and editing your comment is ok, but don't go back to the guy who made you realize your mistake and tell him to read your post better after editing it. Did you think I wouldn't notice that you edited your recommendation to 500-600w led per 1000w hid?

Come on man...

Maybe you should read the questions and your posts better before trying to make others look like the dumb ones.

Also, try not to be such a dick about things and man up when you make a mistake, don't lay the blame others.

Peace and good vibes.

Yo tags! Love to see more apache users. I have a white/red combo, are you guys all using the red/blue?

^^^Awesome, glad to here there are more of us. I use them both. Red blue for flower the high bay white for veg. All 14* lenses.

Cool, I was wondering how the all white would do. I have the white red 3:2 ratio also 14 degree lenses. Use it for both veg and flower. How high above the canopy do you keep them in veg and in bloom?

My buddy did a small grow with 5 whites and only 1 red/blue. It wasn't his main focus so it wasn't exactly dialed in or really payed a lot of attention too. It was actually to test a for new hydro system. Anyways all worked fine that way. For this next test I'm going all red/blue for flower.

i know nothing about leds, but im smart enough to know he will not need a ballast with leds. ballasts is for mh and hps, he wants to change to leds.

Than you guys for all the information. If I did the switch to led I have noticed people say they run cooler but do they still produce enuff heat to have a inline fan running the hot air out the room? In my current set up I have both lights in a cool tube with ducting going from the start of one connecting to the other one and heat is no issue at all I run a smooth 72 degrees inside the tent with lights turned on

You are both right. A ballast on a LED setup is called a 'driver'. Where as they do work a little differently, they both regulate current and voltage and stop the light from destroying itself. :)
