Hi, I just started my first grow. I have a 24in x 45in closet, 6 seedlings (3 a week old, 3 2 days young), and about 600$. Im thinking 400w mh for vegging, and the same wattage hps for flower, but with a couple of flourescents on the sides. I am ordering the mh today (HTG), along with a roll of black & white polly, 25ft flexible ducting, 2 inline fans and seed starter kit (i have 5 fem. Auto seeds, just expirimenting with the bag seed). I made my own soil mix (after reading it on this site lol): 1 part worm castings; 2 parts soil (scott premium);1pt. Vermiculite; 1pt. Perlite; small handfull lime.
for now, the plants are under 5 cfls ( 3 42watt, 26watt; 3 in. away from leafs). btw, should I use the cfls for supl. Light when I get the mh? The 3 week-old seedling are looking ok, biggesy one just below 2in tall. 2 of the young-ins broke soil today too. Any help/advice/criticism will be GREATLY apriciated.

I didn't have that kind of $ to work with so i wired up some Y sockets and got some 26w cfls (6500K) for my veg, and use a 400w hps for flowering. I have been having great success. I know there is so much about this and I probably sound like a tard, but I am seeing things happen off just 26w cfls, and my 400w hps. I don't know if this helps, but I'm bored and thought I'd throw my 2 cents in :)

I've just started growing also. from what I've read and learned you cannot have too much light during flower. Some argue that having the right spectrum of light is important but still others believe in a full spectrum ( 2500 k - 6700k). It also seems like you'll have more than enough ventilation for that 400 watt hid kit. what is the cfm on those fans you ordered?

The only thing I (in my amateurish opinion) would advise on would be your actual grow space. will it be suitable for flowering, i.e - enough room, a place to exhaust the air, etc. They get really big when you 12/12 them, gotta plan for that.

room is no problem for auto flowers sine you have good height. I would suggest going for some sativa strains if you have the room to go tall. I also would not buy metal halide, my CFL's produce insane veg growth. Get the HPS for flowering for sure but just pack in more CFL's.

Ur grow is almost identical to mine (4x2x8 ). I am using a 400w mh (will be swithing to cmh bulb in a week to keep temps lower and I can use it for flowering)! And just added couple cfls from aerogarden that im not using. I might also add another 400w mh for more light as long temps don't climb too much.

If you got any questions feel free to ask.

If u wanna check out my grow its in my signature.

I have never seen this recipe before. Everything sounds good except the scott's premium soil. its works ok but other soils are available with a better balance of nutrition that plants need. If you are looking for a soil recipe that works really well and is perfect for beginners then take a look at sucools super soil thread-----> https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/338384-2010-revised-super-soil-recipe.html

I would never recommend any super soil to a beginner. It just isnt worth it. I say go with your plan and slowly make improvements to soil/water/light/nutes, you'll be fine with a home depot line of soil/nutes. Just fine. Dont listen to all the hype bro and stay in tune with the fact that youre growing a fucking weed. It isnt hard to produce good smoke

I'm just trying to help because many growers of scotts and/or miracle grow mix have reported nutrition deficiency. And the super soil is perfect for beginers. Just add water. how hard is that?how isn't that worth it? its like a fucking chia pet smart guy. sit back and watch the show. no mixing nutes, no adjusting ph, no measuring period:mrgreen:
