I have a 3'x3' growing area about 6.5' high, and 4 indica plants. I have a 250hps light.

Am I going to get a good yield? How high should the plants be before I start flowering, so the dont burn with thw bulb?

Well typically 60W/sqft is a desireable set up. However, this tends to vary from person 2 person.

Before you flower the plants you just want to make sure you got lots of growth nodes and at least two feet, depending on yoru strain and how you plan to operate.

The plant is about two feet tall? You're kidding right?

I started flowering when my plants were about 16 inches and they ended up being 28-32 inches tall. If you have the room and time to grow them to end around 4 feet, then go for it. But that's usually not the case in an indoor grow, especially in the room that Nutella described.

yes indica will grow little like bud or one flower at time, durin the flowering but most sativa strains do the same thing! but sativa grows like little bit more in blooming!

some strains keep growing during the flowering it depens on strain & genetic things!!!
at first thing indica do speed grow when u turn 12/12 1-14days it will grow and first 1-5 days it can grow 15-20cm max! and in 14 days growing stops.

Try to maximize reflective surfaces (mylar, white paint) to fully utilize whatever light you have. Consider white plastic on the floor. Make sure you have a reflector with the light.

Were yours seed or clones?

Clones seem to do better going into flowering earlier (since they are mature)

And yup!?!?!? 2 feet? that like 3 feet+ (with pot) and they double or triple in height in flowering? Kinda scary, huh? gonna be a monster (for indoors)

I started flowering at 14" and I'm 3 weeks 4 days into flowering currently at a little over 32".

your 250 watt HPS is perfect for flowering in a 3x3 room......let them grow to about 12+ inches and then force them to flower you will not be disappointed....when flowering keep the light about 6 inches from the light ..... you also might try vegging with some CFL's or T-8 or something similar...will be cooler and may save some $ on energy costs:leaf:

I dont think he will be able to keep the light at around 6inches from the tops of the plants. I am growing in a small grow room and even with a cooltube on the 250w HPS. I can only get the light as close as 12inches from the tops without burning some leaves. I am growing 5 plants in a room that measures 22inX31inX5ft tall. So i have around 4.7sqft of space. My plants when i put them under 12/12 lighting were from 20in tall to 28in tall. I LST'd the 3 tall ones and now they are all the same distance from the light and they are doing great. I think you will be surprised at the yeild you will end up with. I am growing four AK47 and one Northern Lights. Good luck

Thinking there might be time for a little low-watt reflector tech to come into vogue.

I'm thinking of a big bat wing behind/above the bulb, a deflector just below at a tight angle, and maybe a far outside to 'focus' what was missed down the center.

(yup. poor pic. but all I had handy)

I am running lower watt HPS (150W) in a 2x3 (ish) I might grab a lux meter (can wright it off the taxes) and do a little investigation.

my 250 packed this morning, went to shop to get new one(took old bulb with me)turns out its a mh not hps as i had thought.the guy then sold me a hps bulb (but i later found this to be 400 w)is this the reason why it won't work.bet this seems daft question.but just need to know.i am at 6 weeks flowering but now expect longer as i have been using the wrong bulb.ie mh instead of hps.....

I've been thinking of using a 250w Mh bulb for a veg/cloning room. How many clones-to-vegged-plants do you think could be sustained with this type/amount of light?

I have a 250 watt hps in a cooltube (Lumatek). I used to use a grow tent, but now am growing in scrog in cabinet about 22inX31inX4ft tall. I can't keep the 250hps within 6 inches...it just gets too hot. So...I'm back to CFL's. With a taller cabinet, you can probably get away with it...but 6 inches might be a bit much.

A 250hps will not do well with a plant that is 4ft and over. You need to keep the plant below 3 feet if you can.

I wouldnt exactly say a 250w is PERFECT for a 3x3. that 9sq ft. Divide 250w by 9sq. ft. and you get 22.2222222222222 watts per sq.foot. definately a little on the low side for that size area.Alot of people go with 50w per sq foot, so a 250 will do 5 sq ft amply. but also a 250 is plenty strong for 4 plants, as long as they are sized properly. I would just make youre grow area a little smaller somehow to get the most out of that light.

yes a 250 watt light will do ok in the space you have, also i can keep my 400watter without a cooltube about 10inches above my plants when vegging and 8inches when flowering but thats coz i have a oscilating fan blowing over the tops of my plants,,,,peace

I use a 250w hps on one plant. Its in my gallery and I have to keep it atleast 10-12" above my plant so it wont burn the leaves. My plant was 16" when I started flowering it and now its over 3ft. I need to update my pics though.
