250mh or 400hps

hi,

ive got a 250mh and a 400hps, is it worth it to switch to the 250mh for vegging? theres not enough space for both

Just use the HPS all the way.

Seeing as both bulbs are different wattages, they will need independent ballast systems. This can get costly.

In any case, HPS at 400 watts will have a higher overall lumen output, so your plants will benefit too!

It also saves you the trouble of changing the lamps when flowering comes around.

The most rational idea I could think of, is if you have 2 lamps anyway, you should build a separate veg room, using just the MH lamp, and a separate flower room with the HPS running in there!

This would mean that you can constantly have stuff growing. You need not harvest a crop before reverting to re veg/ start new clones/seeds off. Just throw them in your new veg room!

Maybe you can even partition your existing room into 2 parts.

You could get a mh conversion bulb for the 400. if thats not an option It would depend on how set in place your setup is and how much you would have to do to switch. if its not a problem for you i'd use the mh the first 2 weeks or so then flip over to the 400w hps.

or a ceramic metal halide which runs in an hps ballast and has a better spectrum output than either runs cooler and you wont need to switch bulbs a phillips mastercolor hps retrofit CMH bulb is only 42$ here http://www.lightingsupply.com/CDM400S51-HOR-4K-ALTO.aspx

It wont run off of a digital ballast though but If your running a magnetic ballast your good

thanks for the help. it would b nice to have a veg and flower room, but i dont have that option. i think i will use the mh for 2 weeks since i have a ballast for it aswell then do the good ol switcheroo
